National Museum And Renovation After Fire In Archive Room

Hello, architecture lovers... Ever since I migrated to Jakarta in 2009, I've known that in front of the capital's landmark Moonas is the GAjah Museum, also known as the National Museum. However, for some reason I never got the chance to go inside. Then in 2023, the museum had a fire in the national archive section which made this place temporarily closed.

Until a few months ago, the national museum was finally reopened to the public with a cooler installation. For the front facade, the national museum looks more like an official-looking government building. Large pillars adorn the front of what will be the lobby of the museum.

However, before entering, I'll show you one very iconic thing about this museum.
Here it is...

Meaningful Symbolic Statue by Nyoman Nuarta

Looking at it as a whole, what can you conclude? What shape is this? At first, I thought it was a sculpture of an insect's nest. But upon closer inspection, it turns out that the shape of this sculpture is more like a swift current or a whirlpool that drowns.

When looking at the information listed there, it turns out that this patun is a symbol of the swift current of struggle, according to Nyoman, this means a reflection of the radiance of inspiration for cultural resilience that continues to surge.

You may be able to see that the material of this statue is made of coke iron. In more detail, in the symbol of the swift current, there are many people who reach out to each other to help others or work together rather than being carried away by undue cultural currents.

Elephant Statue as Symbolic of Elephant Museum

It has to be symbolic of its name so that people don't ask ‘where is the elephant?’ even though it's not in a zoo. Ha ha ha. The elephant statue is located right in front of the lobby face of the museum. The elephant statue was beautified by presenting a pond around it so that it would not be touched by visitors.

In addition, in this outside area, there are also some seats for visitors who are just about to enter, after entering, or just want to relax outside the area. I decided to rush in because I had already endured so much curiosity.

The first area is a large room with statues on each side, complete with descriptions. Visitors can slowly enjoy this area, because there is a lot to learn. There are about four white-coloured supporting poles in this room. As for the floor, it is made of marble with a motif like a wooden parquet.

To get to the next area, visitors will see a garden located in the centre of the building. This area is very iconic and instagramable for visitors. This is also the same, the area of the statue area which is included with the description.

It is clear from here, isn't it, that there are so many pillars that make the impression that this building is a government building that was converted into a museum? The grass is neatly manicured, and the decoration of shrubs makes this place so beautiful.

As I said at the beginning that the museum was burnt down in 2023 in the archive area, so now, they have a planted space ‘DRILLING THE FIRE’.

In this room, there are many documents in the form of photos about the condition of the room after the incident to the recovery treatment. There is also a practice for visitors who want to try to reunite damaged items under the title RAWAT LESTARI (Nurture The Eternal).
