Indonesia consists of 5 recognized religions and many tribes, we live peacefully even though sometimes there are some frictions which are quite normal because differences of opinion will definitely occur. There is no fear if non-Muslims come to the mosque to take photos or just rest and vice versa. I also often enter churches to see the architecture, although I don't go directly into the building because I respect the congregation who are worshiping. And this time I will share some documentation of the results of my visit to the Catholic Church in Karo Regency, where the church is very beautiful with many designs on the building that have traditional nuances for the Karo Regency tribe.
The church I visited was called ST FRANSISKUS ASISI, the building is located at the top of a hill in Karo Regency, precisely in Berastagi City. And because it is located on top of the hills, you will definitely know how the air around it is, very fresh, clean without any smell of vehicle smoke from combustion residue. From the courtyard of this church alone we can look down at the activity of the vehicles, enjoy the simple view and breathe in as much air as possible here. And there is also a hidden mission, namely accompanying my wife to see beautiful flowers and my wife wants to ask her flower child to plant it in our house..ha..ha.. what a strange woman.
From the moment we entered this church, we were presented with a very cool, very iconic gate design with a natural brown base color and a very unique gate shape with the typical shape of the Karo Batak tribe inside. Just from the gate you can be sure that this building has good architecture and deserves the attention of tourists. Then entering the gate we can see a large yard for church members to park their vehicles, and this parking lot is very large enough to accommodate 100 cars and approximately 200-300 motorbikes, said the security guard on guard there and they never lack parking space for their congregation.
After entering the gate and looking at the building from the front, the first thing you see is of course the cross as a religious symbol and it is placed at the very top of the building, then under the cross, still positioned on the roof which is shaped like many triangles, we can see the buffalo head at each end of the triangle. on the roof and it is a real buffalo head that has been preserved, not a fake buffalo head. And for the roof of this church they use clay tiles so that inside the church it is much cooler. And the church ceiling uses wood plank material such as brown PVC to make it look more natural.
Then move to the side of the building, the design here is made with brick walls that have been trimmed with a machine, then inserted with large pillars and decorated along the side of the building with carvings which are characteristic of Batak customs. Then on the top side walls from start to finish everything is designed with religious symbols depicting God's love and sacrifice for his people. Then at the bottom of the side building, the walls of the building are made of natural stone whose arrangement is made with an abstract motif so that from the side of the building everything looks very aesthetic as if this building is not a church. Then along the side yard there are large roses which are very beautiful.
And the conclusion of this church is the size of the building with its spacious yard and what stands out most is the shape of the church roof which not only shows religious symbols but also shows pride in traditional traditions at the same time so that this building looks very aesthetic and very iconic.
