Operation shadow

Brows furrowed and eyes narrowed slightly; a grim countenance was set upon his face as he looked through the rain-streaked window. A look of consternation rearranged his features as his suspicions were confirmed. He thought about the deployment and how it might unfold, what his future would hold.

There were options however on this day they seemed few; the area of operations was annoyingly small, limited by restrictions imposed by the government. Outside the cold, grey day stormed; wind blew and rain washed all colour from it, mirroring his mood. What to do...Then it was time to deploy.

That was me this morning, the deployment, my Sunday; it was cold, windy and subject to stay-at-home lockdown at the government's behest. I did my usual morning stuff: Music, shower and breakfast in that order, then felt at a loss; I knew I'd not be able to hike like usual. There's always options though and mine were reading, watching the Olympics and building Lego.

I also played around with this little fellow and my camera as I wanted to do a shadow post. This little chap isn't actually Lego as they don't like to represent the military or war, it's Sluban, a company happy to create military sets.

I used a torch and had a white piece of cardboard taped to the wall as the background. I turned the main light in the room off and...Here's the pictures. They're not great, but I don't care, I had fun.

When looking through them I saw this one and thought it was quite poignant as the shadow of the little fellow is pointing his rifle directly at himself. It reminded me of the dichotomy of war; the man who deploys and the shadow who returns; often a man battling PTSD and moral injury. I'll use this image in a post on the topic sometime soon when I feel like it and can gather my thoughts effectively.

Anyway, that's how I deployed today. I hope y'all are having a great weekend so far and are deploying your weekend with passion and vigour no matter what you may be doing.

Has, I think they are great pictures because a) the original subject matter and b) the torch gives a real stark shadow so hats off to ya!!

Thanks mate! There's nothing like a little overdramatic text to add some weight to a post about black and white photos of a little Lego dude with an AK-47 huh? 😂

Just having some fun and it'll be a post used as an example for that upcoming contest you're judging for me. Killed two birds with one stone here with this one.

Was fun too, used up some of my Sunday.

My Sunday is still in full swing. I am screwing and sawing like crazy. On the home stretch.

It's a great example. That will give them something to gnaw on!!

Yeah, it's longer than most will probably do but gives a guideline I suppose...And it was enjoyable (and frustrating) the get the snaps. I might do some macro tomorrow too, for fun.

Keep screwing mate, a good use of Sunday. Get those little rugrats to keep the bevvys coming too, wouldn't want you to die of thirst.

Oh! This guy has AK? 😀
I am proud of Russia and its weapons!

Lol...Yeah he's got an AK on this occasion but he has some others too, a whole arsenal.

A great story and I disagree, as the photos are great.
Now you can plan more attacks with your expert knowledge of history and warfare.
Maybe a series of shadows on Rommel and Africa?

Thanks mate, all in fun I guess.

I've got a few more models to build and then maybe my little Lego army will take on a few countries. 🤔

Ah, I like that idea, especially if you keep it as close as you can to the actual occurances.
Parents could use it in a fun way to teach their children history.
Or even better, schools might include it in their history classes .
They say that we must think big mate and nothing is impossible.

This is a good point, I like the history-teaching aspect as so few seem to care these days.

These are such Lego figures. :) Funny.

I've got a few sets of them, and a few more to build and all come with a little dude, and a bunch of little guns and knives. They're pretty cool.

cool!
Lego Kalashas! I collected a lot of legos with children, but I couldn't even think about this.

Thank you. Just a fun little post I guess, otherwise people might think I'm too serious all the time.

Seriousness and cheerfulness usually go side by side.
You should always joke about serious things, and talk seriously about funny things! 😂

Haha, yeah that's a good way to look at it for sure!

this is cool!!

What setup do u use for the white background?

I used a torch and had a white piece of cardboard taped to the wall as the background.

As per the post text ☝️

These are great shadow photos and an excellent story to go with them! I like that you explained how the shadows were created. I am just beginning my day's deployment. The plants on the deck have been watered in preparation for the excessive heat and I have made a cup of tea and am ready to look into what's happening here on Hive. Thanks for starting my day off nicely with a shadow post!

Sounds like a good start to Sunday!

It's winding up for me, almost bedtime as it's 23:25. Thanks for your nice comments about my shadow post; it's been a while since I did one and with the contest coming up soon thought I'd better show my face.

Have a great Sunday!

I tweeted your shadow post with a comment about the fun we have in Shadow Hunters. I don't use Twitter much, but like to tweet occasionally to promote the community. I'm not sure that it does any good, but you never know!

One never knows who it may reach, I don't use Twitter myself but many do. :)

Fun is what we need in the present world, Galen. People need some distractions (good ones) and some quality hobbies. Thankfully you have both! :)

I agree, fun is a good thing and when one is in lockdown this constitutes fun. Lol.

I hope you're well mate.

Yeah, doing well. Got Taraz into the game recently. His small investment went 5X today :)

I saw that on our DC chat...Seems he's enjoying it too. It's a good thing, a new focus and hobby I guess. He deserves it.

Hello @galenkp good day

I think that right now the whole world is watching the development of the Olympic games, a while ago I was watching rowing races.

A fun way to deal with the confinement, making legos and taking pictures. you've done some beautiful shots.

I take this opportunity to wish you a splendid afternoon, and a happy start to the week

I there mate it's been a while. Hopefully you've been well.

I don't agree with a lot of the sports they have in the Olympics being somewhat of a purist in that regard but it's been good to watch a few sports and see that that the Olympics have been able to happen this year despite the pandemic and all.

I love these photos

Thank mate, I had some fun taking them. When I get those other Sluban sets done I'll do some more.

Great little post, got me immersed, so well done.

Also never knew that Lego do not make military figures so it's true what they say you learn something new every day.

Yeah, it's a bit odd because they make guns and things for Star Wars sets, just not military. Sliban does it pretty well though, however the quality isn't as good as Lego. It's a third of the price though so maybe that makes up for it.

Yep, agree on how bizarre that sounds. Sort of OK to go rampaging across the universe, guns a blazing, cannons firing but not down on little Earth!

Exactly my thought. I came across some more Sliban today in my travels. A submarine and a few other things. I'll probably get it tomorrow. 🤔😊

I love your work and thank you for this great opportunity. I have tried my first post in this wonderful community and hope to continue posting regularly from now on. Reblogging it so it keeps reminding me about this community.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.
