El pasado 3 de marzo, la Galería de Arte Guerrero en el municipio de Bauta se convirtió en un espacio de reflexión y cultura al acoger la presentación del libro "Cuba on the labels" del Dr. Emilio Cueto. Esta obra nos invita a explorar un fascinante recorrido por las etiquetas y marquillas de tabaco que, aunque llevaban el nombre de "Cuba", no eran productos genuinamente cubanos.
Su autor ha creado numerosas obras, tales como, La Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre en el alma del pueblo cubano,Cuba en USA,Cien barcos en la historia de Cuba, Delivering Cuba through the mail y Matanzas en la mano.
"Cuba on the labels" examina de qué manera uno de sus productos más importantes, el cigarro cubano, ha sido inmortalizado en etiquetas de cigarrillos diseñadas fuera de la isla.
Se presentan más de trescientas etiquetas con imágenes amplias y hermosamente elaboradas. Las reproducciones a tamaño cercano al original brindan a los lectores la oportunidad de contemplar las etiquetas que reflejan la esencia de Cuba desde la perspectiva de los creadores de etiquetas de cigarrillos que operan en el extranjero.
Es, como dice Cueto,este libro documenta la medida en que los comerciantes han ido a vender un sueño, incluso si no proporcionan lo real.
Este volumen sigue su anterior libro de cigarros "La Habana También se Fuma".
Emilio Cueto, Abogado, coleccionista de arte e investigador cubano. Reside en Estados Unidos desde 1961. Su quehacer en el campo de la investigación histórica sobre temas cubanos es notorio.
Su apreciada y amplia colección relativa a la cultura cubana se denomina Emilioteca, haciendo referencia a su abundancia y al fervor personal del entusiasta cubano. Durante casi cuatro décadas, ha establecido un museo único dedicado a su patria,situado a tres kilómetros de la Casa Blanca. Es el coleccionista privado más destacado de artículos cubanos en el mundo. Nada que se haya visto antes iguala lo que se puede descubrir en este hogar.
Asimismo, la Biblioteca Municipal recibió una importante donación literaria del autor. Dentro de los libros ofrecidos, resalta una biografía de Bonifacio Byrne, un obsequio relevante al coincidir con la fecha de su natalicio
Para enriquecer esta vivencia cultural, tuvimos el privilegio de tener al Maestro del Laúd, Edwin Vichot, quien nos cautivó con su virtuosismo.
Próximamente publicaré otro post para hablar sobre otro de sus libros, ya que hay muchas cosas interesante que se puede aprender acerca del trabajo de este escritor.

On March 3, the Guerrero Art Gallery in the municipality of Bauta became a space for reflection and culture by hosting the presentation of the book "Cuba On The Labels" by Dr. Emilio Cueto.

"Cuba On The Labels "examines how of its most important products, the Cuban cigar, has been immortalized in cigarette labels designed outside the island.
More than three hundred labels are presented with broad and beautifully elaborate images.
Reproductions close to the original provide readers the opportunity to contemplate the labels that reflect the essence of Cuba from the perspective of the creators of cigarette labels that operate abroad.
It is, as Cueto says, this book documents the extent to which merchants have gone to sell a dream, even if they do not provide the real.
This volume follows its previous cigarette book "Havana is also smoked."

He lives in the United States since 1961. His work in the field of historical research on Cuban issues is notorious.
His appreciated and wide collection related to Cuban culture is called Emiloteca, referring to his abundance and personal fervor of the Cuban enthusiast.

Likewise, the Municipal Library received an important literary donation from the author.

To enrich this cultural experience, we had the privilege of having the lute master, Edwin Vichot, who captivated us with his virtuosity.
