¡Hola a toda la comunidad! Me emociona mucho recomendar este libro, ya que es mi libro favorito. Al pensar en que tema debería compartir el día de hoy me dije, debe de ser algo que realmente me apasione… Entonces recordé cuanto amo platicar acerca de novelas e historias y dije, ¿Por qué no?
Por supuesto que quizás este no sea el gusto de todos, no obstante, si eres una persona que ama los libros de época, el romance amor-odio, una protagonista para nada típica, y un protagonista que puede enamorar a cualquiera, entonces has llegado al lugar correcto.
Antes de comenzar a con mi recomendación, me gustaría relatar un poco mi propia historia con la literatura. Comencé a leer cuando era muy pequeña, ni siquiera puedo recordar mi primer libro, era demasiado pequeña como para hacerlo. Mi fascinación por la literatura se la debo a tres personas, mi abuelo, Rafael, mi bisabuela, Carmen Luisa, y mi madre, Yamilet, ellos se encargaron de convertir mi cabeza en una biblioteca.
En mi etapa de adolescente fui una joven muy retraída, un poco tímida y absorta, por esa razón siempre tenía la cabeza perdida entre un par de páginas. Me sentía igual que Matilda en esa famosa frase que reza “Los libros le dieron a Matilda un reconfortante y esperanzador mensaje: No estás sola”.

A pesar de que los libros eran definitivamente mis mejores amigos, notaba que siempre había una típica protagonista, una mujer hermosa que creía no serlo, cuando en realidad era una belleza despampanante.
Comencé a aburrirme de eso, porque desde muy pequeña he sido una mujer con algunos kilos de más. Nunca era lo suficientemente delgada, lo suficientemente perfecta o hermosa para los chicos de mi edad, incluso aún no he tenido el placer de decir que alguien se ha interesado en mí más allá de mis libras extras, en fin.
Cuando leía esos libros con estas despampanantes mujeres me sentía tan mal conmigo misma, no me malinterpreten, amaba leer; sin embargo, incluso para mis amados amigos, no era material de protagonista.
Eso sucedió durante mucho tiempo hasta que encontré esta hermosa joya de la literatura moderna. “Nueve reglas que romper para conquistar a un libertino”, (Este fue el título con el que lo leí por primera vez), relata la historia de una mujer de veintiocho años, que nunca ha sido “el diamante de la temporada”, sus curvas y redondeces no son aptas para la moda de su actualidad.
Al leer esto yo no podía creérmelo, finalmente encontré un personaje con el que podía sentirme completamente relacionada, fue como descubrir agua a la mitad del desierto.
Pronto me enamoré de Callie, de su chispeante, divertida, riesgosa y animada personalidad. Además, en cuanto me sumergí en cada página, conociendo a Gabriel, el marqués de Ralston, supe que estaba completamente enamorada.
Luego de escuchar a su hermana y su prometido, condenándola a la tarea de niñera de sus futuros sobrinos, Callie toma la decisión de agarrar al toro por los cuernos y cambiar el destino de su vida, decide no ser corriente ni insulsa, ni mucho menos pasiva, como supone el resto de la sociedad londinense.
Por lo que esa misma noche se cuela de su hogar materno, escondida por supuesto de su completa familia, para parar en las puertas del libertino más tremendo de toda Inglaterra, Gabriel, Marqués de Ralston. Estos dos se sumergen en un sin fin de aventuras que atrapara a cualquiera.

Sarah MacLean tiene la capacidad de atraparte desde la primera frase, llenando la narración de emoción, incertidumbre, anhelo y deseo. Con el transcurrir de las páginas simplemente puedes notar que la escritora tiene como propósito incitarte a seguir leyendo.
En muchos libros de época la narración tiende a cansar un poco, porque los eventos transcurren con lentitud, además de que hay demasiados personajes con los cuales debes ponerte al día. Sin embargo, en este libro ese no es el caso, cada página contiene una nueva aventura, la historia sigue un ritmo divertido, interesante y atrayente.

Ahora con respecto a los personajes, cada uno provee un tono diferente a la historia, puedes reírte, llorar, simpatizar, e incluso odiar a cada uno de ellos. Cuando vemos personajes secundarios, casi podemos desear que no se vayan a ninguna parte, son tan refrescantes e intrigantes como los papeles protagónicos.
También la forma en que realmente sientes que los eventos transcurren en los años mil ochocientos es completamente surreal. Este libro es muy diferente de otros libros de época y vale la pena leerlo.
Una de las cosas que tiene diferente con otras contrapartes, es que encontraras momentos cargados de erotismo, sensualidad y placer en más de una ocasión, por lo que estarás mordiéndote las uñas, esperando que no atrapen a este parte de granujas.
Ahora, pues claro que no todo es color de rosa, esta novela tiene un tema típico que se repite una y otra vez en el mundo literario, honestamente he perdido la cuenta de cuantas veces me he encontrado con esta disyuntiva en una historia de amor, y eso es la típica apuesta que realiza el protagonista para conquistar a la chica.
La primera vez que lo leí no note ese detalle, estaba tan enamorada de los personajes que pase por alto esto, pero sí, hay una apuesta de por medio, y por supuesto que Callie se entera de ello y sale lastimada, pero no temas, sin necesidad de spoilear el final, solo diré que termina bien.
Otra cosa que puede ser un poco desagradable a la vista de muchas personas, es la masculinidad tóxica de Gabriel, este es un hombre que nunca ha experimentado lo que es el verdadero amor, así que cuando comienza a tener sentimientos románticos por Callie, nada más y nada menos que una mujer regordeta y para nada su estilo, se niega a aceptarlo, lastimando a aquellos a quien ama en el camino.
A pesar de todo esto, el pasado tormentoso y lleno de dolor del Marqués de Ralston, te hace sentir simpatía por él, incluso llegar a comprenderlo y amarlo.

Con el auge de la serie de Netflix, producida por Shondaland, Bridgerton, estoy muy segura de que los libros de época se volverán todo un éxito. Personalmente, he leído tantos, que he perdido la cuenta, me encanta sumergirme en historias que me transportan a un tiempo pasado.

Hello to this amazing community! I am so excited to recommend this book because it is my favorite book. When I was thinking about what topic I should share today I said to myself, it must be something I'm really passionate about... Then I remembered how much I love to talk about novels and stories and said, why not?
Of course, this may not be everyone's cup of tea, however, if you are someone who loves period books, love-hate romance, an imperfect lead female, and a lead man that anyone can fall in love with, then you have come to the right place.
Before I begin my recommendation, I'd like to relate a bit of my own history of how I ended in the road of literature. I started reading when I was very little, I can't even remember my first book, I was too young to do so. I owe my fascination for literature to three people, my grandfather, Rafael, my great-grandmother, Carmen Luisa, and my mother, Yamilet, they were in charge of turning my head into a walking library.
When I was a teenager, I was a very withdrawn young girl, a little shy and absorbed, for that reason I always had my head lost between a couple of pages. I felt just like Matilda in that famous phrase that we saw in the movie, "Books gave Matilda a comforting and hopeful message: You are not alone".

Even though books were definitely my best friends, I noticed that there was always a typical lead female, a beautiful woman who thought she wasn't, when in reality she was a stunning beauty.

I started to get bored with that because from a very young age I've been a woman with a few extra pounds. I was never thin enough, perfect enough, or beautiful enough for guys my age, I have yet to even have the pleasure of saying that anyone has ever been interested in me beyond my extra pounds, anyway.
When I was reading those books with these stunning women, I felt so bad about myself, don't get me wrong I loved to read; however, even for my beloved friends, I was not leading lady material.
That went on for a long time until I found this beautiful gem of modern literature. “Nine Rules to Break to Conquer a Libertine”, (This was the title under which I first read it), tells the story of a twenty-eight-year-old woman, who has never been “the diamond of the season”, her curves and roundness did not fit for the fashion of her present day.
Reading this I couldn't believe it, I finally found a character I could completely relate to, it was like discovering water in the middle of the desert.
I soon fell in love with Callie, with her sparkling, fun, risky and lively personality. Plus, as soon as I dove into each page, meeting Gabriel the Marquis of Ralston, I knew I was completely smitten.
After listening to her sister and her fiancé, condemning her to the task of nanny to her future nephews, Callie decides to take the bull by the horns and change the destiny of her life, she decides not to be ordinary or bland, much less passive, as the rest of London society believes.
So that very night she sneaks out of her maternal home, hidden of course from her entire family, to stop at the doors of the most tremendous libertine in all of England, Gabriel, Marquis of Ralston. These two are plunged into an endless series of adventures that will entrap anyone.

Sarah MacLean can grab you from the first sentence, filling the narrative with emotion, uncertainty, longing, and desire. As the pages go by you can simply tell that the writer's purpose is to entice you to keep reading.
In many periods books, the narration tends to get a bit tiring, because events move slowly, plus there are too many characters for you to keep up with. However, in this book that is not the case, each page contains a new adventure, the story follows a fun, interesting, and catching rhythm.

Now regarding the characters, each one provides a different tone to the story, you can laugh, cry, sympathize, and even hate each of them. When we see secondary characters, we can almost wish they weren't going anywhere, they are just as refreshing and intriguing as the lead roles.
Also, the way you really feel the events take place in the eighteen hundred years is completely surreal. This book is very different from other period books and well worth the read.
One of the things that are different from other counterparts, is that you will find moments loaded with eroticism, sensuality, and pleasure on more than one occasion, so you will be biting your nails, hoping they don't catch this rogue party.
Now, of course not everything is rosy, this novel has a typical theme that is repeated over and over again in the literary world, honestly, I have lost count of how many times I have encountered this dilemma in a love story, and that is the typical bet made by the protagonist to conquer the girl.
The first time I read it I didn't notice that detail, I was so in love with the characters that I overlooked this, but yes, there is a bet involved, and of course, Callie finds out about it and gets hurt, but fear not, no need to spoil the ending, I'll just say that it ends well.
Another thing that may be a bit off-putting to many people's eyes, is Gabriel's toxic masculinity, this is a man who has never experienced what true love is, so when he starts having romantic feelings for Callie, none other than a chubby woman and not at all his style, well he refuses to accept it, hurting those he loves along the way.
Despite all this, the Marquis de Ralston's stormy and pain-filled past, makes you feel sympathy for him, even come to understand and love him.

With the rise of the Netflix series, produced by Shondaland, Bridgerton, I'm pretty sure period books will become all the rage. Personally, I've read so many, I've lost count, I love immersing myself in stories that transport me to a time gone by.
