Opening A Jumpstart Booster: Copied

No, the title doesn't mean this post is copied. That's the name of the mini-deck in this new Jumpstart Booster for Magic: The Gathering. I will copy in some info from the previous post, though.

Your favorite legends and Planeswalkers are here with quintessential Magic from across the Multiverse. This set was made for past, present, and future Magic players. —Wizards of the Coast

The Foundations set is supposed to be tournament-legal through 2029 according to the pre-release announcement, and the pitch with these Jumpstart Boosters is that you can buy two for an instant 40-card deck to learn the game. I'll be discussing this pack and giving some thoughts on how it might fit with that last one, too.

Like before, there is a cover card stating the color and theme. This second deck is mono-red, and bears the title, Copied. It looks like this is a red spellslinger aggro deck that does bonus stuff when you play instants and sorceries. I've tried building a few decks with this theme, so I'm interested to see what this mini-deck suggests.

Again, I shared the list on Moxfield. There were 7 basic mountains, 1 non-basic land which helps fix mana in a multi-color deck, 7 creatures, 1 sorcery, and 4 instants.

The mascot and focal point for this deck is Zada, Hedron Grinder. This is a reprint of a fairly popular budget red aggro commander who shares effects from instants and sorceries which target her with all of your other creatures.

Red and green tend to blend well for growth and power, so this could be a fun deck. She can massively benefit your board state with the green instants which add counters in the previous deck, and she shares her bonuses from any cards here with the green creatures as well.

It's not an amazing pull from a resale standpoint, but this deck is meant to be played. I'm not saddened about this. The other card of note is Crimson Wisps, which costs just one red mana to grant haste and draw a card. This is just the 3rd time it has been reprinted, and even as a common, it has a nice premium because card draw in red can be hard to find, and adding haste is on brand. Prices fell on it right as this new set launched, but I see this as good for red players everywhere.

What do you think of Foundations Round 2?
