This is a chapter that continues from where everything started. From what habits are to how we manage and change them.
Here we will see that before we decide to change a habit it comes in layers. Each layer is important as it leads to the next layer.
The first layer is the outcome; this is what we get when we try to change our habits. When you decide to change your habit of eating too much fat, the outcome might you lose fat, and that can help you slim down. That’s one layer of change the next is a process; this is what we do when we need that outcome we yearn for. What are you doing that shows that will one day become the billionaire you aspire to b. your habits should show you have the traits of a billionaire before you can be. The last is the identity layer. What your belief is your identity layer. When you think you are never lucky then you will never be. Our beliefs are one thing we should rethink before we turn our habits around. With these layers, we can start from identity, process, and then to outcome, or we go the other way around. But starting from the identity side to the outcome stage will be what I will choose to affect my life with.
It’s hard to change your habit if you find it difficult to change the underlying belief that led to that habit. A change in belief is a 50% chance you can change that habit. Our habits are our repeated being. What we do every day is what we become. When you want to change your identity, concentrate on your habits. When you have the habits of a musician, then will you become a great musician. When you write a page a day as a habit, in years to come, you will identify as a writer for years to come.
Question your current self. Ask yourself about the successful people you have heard of. When you want to be a great runner, ask yourself how much Usain Bolt trained to have his name in the history books of athletes. When you seek to be a great writer, ask yourself about the writing habits of that great writer you aspire to be. When you ask the right questions about your identity, find the right answers and that change will affect your identity.
We learned a lot from the book. Keep following and share with me what you think too.
It would be better if you could post all the chapters in one go :) otherwise, it might look like a spam.
Great suggestion. Thanks 😊
Yeah......I agree with that part that habit could only be changed when a belief which led to the habit is reviewed and rethink made. If the belief remains the same, then the habit might not change
