It took me a while to read this very famous book because and I don't know if it's something that happens to you when something gets too much fame I lose interest, basically because I've had some fiascos seeing and/or reading things that are not good but only famous, so that's why I was with doubts about this work, finally yesterday I decided and I couldn't have been more wrong, all the good reviews are true: this book is great. So, in this post I will tell you about my experience and opinions reading it, trying to give you as few spoilers as possible.
The book tells us the life of Evelyn Hugo, a very famous Hollywood actress who decided to make an authorized biography, so she hired a novice writer, named Monique, to take care of it; the book tells us the life of the actress starting or from the point of view of each of her marriages, which as the title indicates, were seven.
I think what I liked most about the book is how it covers a very plausible reality of how Hollywood was in the 50's, where Evelyn taking advantage of her beauty was making her way to become the star she is, some people will see this as opportunism and judge it but back then women did not have the means and tools that we have today and that is a reflection of how much we have harvested and the freedom we have gained, unfortunately that was not enough because she could not bring to light her true great love. Another thing I also liked about the book is that it reflects the power of friendship with Celia and Harry, a hard life becomes more bearable when we are not alone. Likewise, to support the narrative of the story we have two newspapers from the future and the present and this is very cool.
The book is one of those that you devour in a matter of hours because of the pace as it is written, just needing to know what became of this lady's life, one of the things that slows it down a bit is that the character of the journalist is a bit boring, and although there is a specific reason to choose her, sometimes there was not enough chemistry. I liked this book, even though it's not perfect but I do recommend reading it and I give it 4/5.

Me tomo un tiempo leer este famosísimo libro porque y no sé si es algo que les pase a ustedes cuando algo agarra demasiada fama pierdo el interés, básicamente porque me he llevado algunos fiascos viendo y/o leyendo cosas que no son buenas sino que solo son famosas, así que por eso estuve con dudas sobre esta obra, finalmente ayer me decidí y no pude haber estado más errada, todas las buenas críticas son ciertas: este libro es genial. Así pues, en este post les contare sobre mi experiencia y opiniones leyéndolo, tratando de darles la cantidad menor de spoilers posibles.
El libro nos cuenta la vida de Evelyn Hugo, una famosísima actriz de Hollywood que ya entrada en años decide hacer una biografía autorizada, por lo que contrata a una escritora novata, de nombre Monique, para encargarla de esto; el libro nos cuenta la vida de la actriz partiendo o desde el punto de vista de cada uno de sus matrimonios, que como el titulo nos indica, fueron siete.
Creo que lo que más me gusto del libro es como abarca una realidad muy plausible de cómo era el Hollywood de los años 50, donde Evelyn aprovechándose de su belleza fue abriéndose paso para lograr ser la estrella que es, algunas personas verán esto como oportunismo y lo juzgaran pero en ese entonces las mujeres no contaban con los medios y las herramientas con las que contamos nosotras hoy en día y eso es un reflejo de lo mucho que hemos cosechado y de la libertad que hemos ganado, lastimosamente eso no fue suficiente pues no podía sacar a la luz a su verdadero gran amor. Otra de las cosas que también me gusto del libro es que refleja el poder de la amistad con Celia y Harry, una vida dura se hace más llevadera cuando no estamos solos. De igual forma, como apoyo a la narrativa de la historia tenemos dos periódicos del futuro y el presente y esto es muy chulo.
El libro es de esos que devoras en cuestión de horas por el ritmo como está escrito, simplemente necesitar saber que fue de la vida de esta señora, una de las cosas que le frena un poco compas es que el personaje de la periodista es un poco aburrido, y a pesar de que hay una razón específica para elegirla a ella, a veces no había la química suficiente. Este libro me gusto, a pesar de que no es perfecto pero si recomiendo leerlo y le doy 4/5
