Greetings, Before The Review
Greetings to all bookworms!
I hope you are in a good mood. I haven't been able to write a post for Hive Book Club for a long time. No need to beat around the bush, the biggest reason for this is that I haven't been able to read (m)any books. I've been running around a lot lately because I'm in the marriage period.
Fortunately, when I come on board a ship, I can at least read a few pages of a book before I go to sleep if I'm not too tired. Moreover, I recently visited a tabletop gaming bookstore and bought a few Dungeons and Dragons books. I started reading them one by one and I'm planning to share them in this community. There are even some books that are free. The review of those will come soon. This is also a good training for my youtube channel. I will talk about the things I write here on my youtube channel.
But today I'm going to tell you about a very good book, a book that will help you a lot, especially in business life, but also in social life.
The photos are mine, I just took them. I am about to finish the book right now, there are about 9-10 pages left. I am not someone who reads personal development books a lot. But I think I have read this book enough to comment, after all, it is 623 pages in total... let's start!
THE 48 LAWS OF POWER
(ROBERT GREENE / JOOST ELFFERS)
This book is more intense than I expected. In fact, when I first picked it up, I thought there would be 48 articles, I would read it in short and I would read it quickly.
But it was not like that.
Each article tells you how to identify, gain or control power in different ways. It talks about the characteristics and abilities of people who have power. It doesn't tell you this in a-straightforward writing. It first gives you and explains long historical events.
The author helps us to understand the lessons to be learned from these events, and at the end he summarizes these lessons. When I first started reading the book, I was expecting only these summaries, but I did not expect to learn history in such depth.
The book touches on events in ancient Roman, and ancient Egyptian history to La Fontaine stories. Based on these, it gives advice and helps us understand real life. In fact, it is very surprising that the methods of power today are similar to the methods used in the past. It makes you think while reading: Despite the passage of hundreds of years, humanity has changed very little. He starts to touch more on modern technology and modern power at the end of the book. But still, the basics always seem to have remained the same.
People love power, they gather around people with power like moths to the light. Some want to have that influence themselves. Others want to remain as henchmen, waiting for the person in power to make a mistake so that they can take advantage at the appropriate time. Life still hasn't changed much.
It is not difficult to see this, especially in business life. Take a look back; pay attention to the rate at which those who suck up to the boss at work rise. Notice how fast those who do their job very well and outshine their boss are fired. Look at the compliance with the rules set by the person who comes to work on time and leaves on time, just by doing his/her job. I want you to remember how much people try to bend the rules set by companies (e.g. smoking breaks, lunch breaks, etc.) in order not to follow them. Then, when the person who worked by bending these rules suddenly comes to power, everything changes, doesn't it? Now he wants his employees to return to work on time.
Power changes people.
It is necessary to follow this change. You can choose not to follow it if you want, of course, not everyone has to be powerful. Not everyone has to be a leader. That's what he talks about in the book.
At the end of the chapters, he repeats what he wants to teach you in the form of a key. So we can reinforce it. I am one of those people who underline a lot while reading a book. Except for my Dungeons and Dragons books. In this book, I can say that sometimes I wanted to underline the whole page. Especially in the last summary, lesson, and clear suggestion parts, especially in these key parts.
The sentences he quotes from famous thinkers, politicians, philosophers, writers or important figures in history are very impressive and concise. It is clear.
That's all I wanted to write about the book. I hope it will be useful for you and I can say that I liked this book. The cons are: It is a bit difficult to read. Too many historical examples, stories, etc... make it difficult to read after a while. It can be boring. I could have finished it faster, but I didn't want to skip these chapters.
Finally, I can say my score is 4/5.
Thank you very much for reading. Have you read this book before? What do you think about it? Is it important for you to have power? What are the characteristics of people who have power around you? See you in the comments!

My elder brother introduced me to the audio version of this book. When I listened, it seemed strange as I personally didn't agree with some of the laws mentioned.
But overall, I learned a lot of key lessons.
Amazing review dear. Thanks for sharing!

This is one of the book I want to have its physical copies. I got to read them at a public library but really want to have a collection on my own. It has the right amount of history that keeps me hooked :D
It is a great one seriously I liked it 😁😄
When I read a book that give me what I want, I underlined the important word's and sentences, so that I can be aware of the sentence when next I am reading the book, doing it, is a good practice,
It's great that the book has the strength of building an individual to achieve his full potential, a great thing.
It awakens the potential and makes us realize how our society runs 🙏 have you read this one ? 💪
No, I have not read it yet, but I will find a way and read it.
