In this post I’d like to talk to you about a very interesting book that caught my attention for its original theme: drug dealing. It is a controversial and little-debated topic, but I’m a curious person so I enjoyed reading it.

In questo post vi parlo di un libro decisamente interessante che ha colpito la mia attenzione per il suo tema originale: lo spaccio di droga. Si tratta di un argomento controverso e poco dibattuto, ma io sono una persona curiosa quindi ho apprezzato la lettura.

Plot and personal considerations
“Diversamente pusher” collects interviews with 12 independent pushers who tell their stories to the public for the first time. These dealers have a well-defined business strategy: not to rely on the large-scale distribution of organized crime, but to act only in the interest of consumers who want quality products.
Criminal organizations, in fact, manage most of the drug trafficking today and are able to influence governments and nations. They are run like multinationals, where the dealers who live on the streets depend on bank consultants for money laundering, who depend on drug managers, who in turn depend on other high-ranking individuals. With this hierarchy, the final product is often not guaranteed and its quality is minimal, because everyone must profit from it.
The 12 life stories told in this book, however, belong to people who have decided to avoid these mafia systems. The pusher protagonists tell the most ethical sides of the relationship between the human being and the alteration of the state of consciousness induced by drugs. The story is told from their specific point of view and totally without filters.
These are not always stories with a happy ending. In fact, this book does not intend to sugar-coat the world of drugs in any way. The darkest, most terrible, saddest and most dangerous aspects are also described. Some of the protagonists have gone to prison, others have seen friends die near them, because of drugs.
The aspect that I appreciated most is the author's detachment in telling the stories of these 12 freelance dealers. The writer presents us with the naked reality and then we have to judge it. It is a market that we can no longer ignore and that leads us to reflect on what the role of society is towards narcotics.

“Diversamente pusher” raccoglie le interviste a 12 pusher indipendenti che si raccontano per la prima volta al pubblico. Questi spacciatori hanno una strategia commerciale ben definita: non affidarsi alla grande distribuzione della criminalità organizzata, ma agire solo nell’interesse dei consumatori che desiderano prodotti di qualità.
Le organizzazioni criminali, infatti, gestiscono al giorno d’oggi la maggior parte del traffico di droga e sono in grado di influenzare i governi e le nazioni. Sono gestite come multinazionali, dove gli spacciatori che vivono nelle strade dipendono da consulenti bancari per il riciclaggio del denaro, i quali dipendono da manager degli stupefacenti, che a loro volta dipendono da altri individui di alto rango. Con questa gerarchia, spesso il prodotto finale non è garantito e la sua qualità è minima, perché tutti ne devono tratte profitto.
Le 12 storie di vita raccontate in questo libro, invece, appartengono a persone che hanno deciso di evitare questi sistemi mafiosi. I pusher protagonisti raccontano i lati più etici del rapporto tra l’essere umano e l’alterazione dello stato di conoscenza indotto dalle droghe. La storia è raccontata dal loro punto di vista specifico e totalmente senza filtri.
Non si tratta sempre di storie a lieto fine. Infatti, questo libro non intende edulcorare in nessun modo il mondo delle droghe. Sono raccontati anche gli aspetti più cupi, terribili, tristi e pericolosi. Alcuni dei protagonisti sono andati in carcere, altri hanno visto morire vicino a sé degli amici, per colpa della droga.
L’aspetto che ho apprezzato di più è il distacco da parte dell’autore nel raccontare le storie di questi 12 spacciatori freelance. Lo scrittore ci presenta la nuda realtà e poi siamo noi a doverla giudicare. È un mercato che non possiamo più ignorare e che ci porta a riflettere su quale sia il ruolo della società nei confronti delle sostanze stupefacenti.

Those who take antidepressants in the morning and benzodiazepines in the evening. Those who take Viagra or Cialis to improve their sexual performance. And yet this substance has decimated a generation. But there is a new holocaust, this time caused by the spread of synthetic opiates in the USA, a real epidemic ignored in Italy, even if these substances are increasingly present in our country”.
“I only came to this type of information and considerations thanks to the frequentation of about twenty freelance pushers who know this type of dynamics well […] Approaching this world was for me a considerable but also very stressful experience. I often had to meet the subjects several times, gain their trust, find the right moment to address the delicate topic of the interview”.
Conclusion
I recommend this book to all those curious to know about the world of drugs, a topic that is very little talked about. It is a taboo in most countries and public opinion is often extreme. It is a light book, with simple language but that goes straight to the heart. It is not an easy book: the world of street dealing makes you reflect deeply on the dynamics that surround us.

Conclusione
Consiglio questo libro a tutte le persone curiose di conoscere il mondo delle droghe, un argomento di cui si parla davvero poco. Si tratta di tabù nella maggior parte degli Stati e l’opinione pubblica è spesso estrema. È un libro leggero, con un linguaggio semplice ma che arriva dritto al cuore. Non si tratta di un libro facile: il mondo dello spaccio di strada fa riflettere nel profondo sulle dinamiche che ci circondano.
