A quartet of most amazing books and a grandiose story that I've read in quite a while.
Hyperion Cantos*
A space soap opera at its best, spanning galaxies and time and space. An intimate story of love and hope. A grotesque painting of repeating greed and malice and pain on a galactic scale. A religious and philosophic script, an epical poem, an intriguing narrative. All of this and more.
The recipe for future is there. The gist of Universe included. It is what we all know and tend to forget. Thank you, Dan Simmons, for reminding us. What is it? Unconditional love, a physical power.
Yes, there is a lot of pain on these pages. Sometimes if was actually hard to continue reading. I needed several daily breaks to muster the courage to tackle the next chapter.
At the same time, it is an ode to nature's beauty and abundance.
It is a must read for every true hard SciFi lover and can be a huge surprise for those who are new to the genre. These four books are a treasure and a classic in every way you measure them.
@stayoutoftherz, thank you very much for reminding me to reread Hyperion and then read through all four books. Your advice was precious and I am grateful to you.

Something completely different. A journey it will be, I hope. Yet much more down to Earth, literally.
I've read the The Salt Path three years ago and it stuck in my memory as some placeholder to simple ways in life, to love, to journey, to strength born out of desperation, to hope and to future even if there seems to be none.
What will its follow-up, The Wild Silence bring?
In a way, it's a complete opposite to Hyperion quarter. Intimate, two person tale of individual's struggle and perseverance. Yet, all real stories share the same basic premise, to be alive in your best possible way, to live and to love and be loved. Simple.

I borrowed "Hyperion" from my library a few weeks ago. Still waiting to start reading it. Not enough time. I finished "The Gods Themselves" by Isaac Asimov and it was great. I recommend you to give it a try!

Go for the Hyperion, make some time :) You'll find yourself immersed in the stories.

Congrats! As a sci-fi fan, I read the first two - Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion a few years ago. In Serbian language. Amazing story and worlds created by the imagination of Dan Simmons. For this vacations I have this and this. Oh yes and I ordered, now I'm waiting for Gibson's last one.

in našel sem (v stanovanju mamo total kaos) še tole:
Liju Cisin - edini Kitajec ki je dobil Hugo ... tretji del trilogije Problem Treh Teles, zelo hardcore sci-fi, ne najdem pa 1. in 2. dela...
In pa celo trilogijo Richarda Morgana - Digitalni Ogljik, tudi neka serija je bila, to je vse v srbohrvaščini ....
jaz v glavnem v srbohrvaščini berem sf, ker prevodi izidejo takoj, v slovenščini tega ni...
leposlovje pa mi v angleščini nikakor ne tekne, ni tiste sočnosti...čeprav tudi v angleščini berem brez težav ...
v glavnem grem jutri v LJ, v bauhaus, moj telefon je 041280241, če imaš kak drugi predlog za srečanje pa mi pošlji SMS ali pokliči...

Nice. I recently read Simmons' Ilium and Olympos, another series of his. Will probably be writing a review of them as well.
I was looking to pick up this series too; it's good to seet that there's more enthusiasm for it.

I am really glad you liked them! They are still my favorite space saga.
Thank you again for reminding me. I think I will reread parts of these books where Simmons describes wonders of various planets and goes deep into philosophy.
