I just finished reading my first book for 2025, which was, The Midnight Library by Matt Haig.
Now, let me share my thoughts on it while it's still fresh in my brain.
I am rating it a 3 out of 5. Not because it is a bad book, but because it didn't make me feel a surge of emotions I thought I would, given the reviews I read/heard from other people.
The concept of the book is honestly intriguing for me, but the storyline turned out to be predictable.
For those who haven't heard about this book, The Midnight Library is basically a place which allows the main character to visit and experience the other lives she could have lived, if only she chose differently in the various parts of her life.
As I said, the concept was cool. And even though this book didn't make it to my top favorite books, it did make me reflect on life.
It made me appreciate my current life more and reminded me that the life I have now is the best life I have so far. I can do something to make it better, but I can never do anything about the things of the past. So instead of wondering what my life would have been like if I did the things I didn't do or chose the decisions I didn't choose, I better just rewire my mind and think of the endless possibilities ahead of me.
As mentioned in the book, "It is easy to mourn the lives we aren't living." But really, how sure are we that the other lives we could have lived are better than the one we have now?
This life may be hard now, yes. But it is also in this life where we could change that narrative.
I guess what I am trying to say is that no life is perfect. But knowing that we are breathing in this very life that we have now is a reason enough to keep on going.
Let us live. And hopefully, live a life that sees the potential in us and the world around us.
Stay sane and safe!
Let's spread happiness.

I love the way Matt Haig writes. I discovered his books some years ago in a very bad moment of my life and I found them really helpful, delicate and with not banalities 💞
awww glad you found comfort in his books! This is actually my first time reading his books. any recos? hehe
I've read this book online but have yet to have its copy. This is a reminder for me to finally get a copy of this intriguing book. I understand though that this could be less impactful to certain readers but to those who just had some turmoil in their life could resonate with this book. Doesn't he also write a sequel to this one?
I agree! I personally know some people who resonated with this book more. And if I read this in a different time of my life, I might have appreciate it more as well.
And oh, I don't know about the sequel! What's the title?
You open the beginning of 2025 with a best-selling book. It is also one of my ways to start something simple, because I am afraid of reading the wrong book (which sometimes makes me not interested) and finally throughout the year I only add a little to my book references.
What is your first book for 2025? ☺️
