I recently came across a book titled "Essentialism" on Twitter, and since I am a fan of its translator, Riko Takahashi (I became a fan through her translation of "Blockchain Revolution"), I immediately bought it and started reading. This book underscores the importance of focusing on what's important and courageously letting go of the rest.

In summer of 1627 Barbary corsairs in four ships landed on the coast of Iceland, and sailed away with close to 400 captives. The Barbary raiders weren't looking for gold, or treasure. They were looking for people who could be sold as merchandise. This was the purpose of the raid: to capture humans, men women, children--even infants, and carry them back to Africa for sale. The trade in humans conducted by Barbary raiders lasted for centuries.

Good morning to all Hive reader friends, I am back to bring you a book review, but unlike the previous one this one I read it from cover to cover and... Wow, it says very strong and deep things that could affect people with weak minds, but as the author of this book comes from the land of the rising sun and there is no such thing as being weak minded, this book got great fame and was translated into several languages, one of them Spanish. Today I will talk to you about... (sigh) "No Longer Human" by the Japanese author Osamu Dazai..

Truth be told every time we are in booksale, they'd race to look for art books while I casually go to the manga section 😆 HAHAHA! I wasn't that hype yet until our thesis subject in 4th year came along, that was the time I felt the importance of owning one and how convenient it is, thus I joined their art books hunting.

There will be spoilers here, I suspect most people interested in Twilight have already read or seen the movies. If you don't want spoilers, stop now. You have been warned. I try not to divulge too many spoilers for "Life and Death" still there may be a few. Most of the spoilers are around the plot of the original Twilight series. As many of you know, I'm not a huge Stephenie Meyer fan. At first, I thought it was her writing style. She's obviously a much better writer than I'll ever be, but for whatever reason I just didn't appreciate her writing style. After reading Life and Death a spin on the Twilight series, that all changed. Surprisingly, I don't think it was her writing style at all, but more about how I related to her characters.

What is Hive Book Club?

Hive Book Club is a community made by book lovers, for book lovers. A place where the chaotic minds of writers may punch away words from their keyboards as they share their writing adventures. Where passionate book collectors may rummage through their stacks of books to share and review their latest additions. Outside of our regular curation process, we may create contests for our community to participate in, and earn even more from their posts. If you have a certain theme for a future contest you would like to see, let us know! Be sure to check with us frequently on our various social media platforms to avoid missing out!

How Do We Choose The Highlighted Posts?

For those of you curious as to how you may have been chosen or would like to be chosen in the future in one of these compilations: we scan through the community and read the many posts that the community members write. We then select four or five posts that we believe meet certain criteria and are worthy of sharing with the rest of the community. We aim to keep these selections diverse in style, from writing skills or subject matter.

Hence, throughout the week, the moderators will check the community and manually handpick the posts. Some factors include the post subject, post quality, engagement, personal voice, and general effort. If we choose you, or you happen to stumble across these highlights, please do check out the other posts we feature, and contribute to their curation and engagement!
