Even though I was on a search for short books in my e-library that I could enjoy, I wasn’t keen on reading the book I’m about to review. I remembered this author from How To Kill Men and Get Away With It. and stopping the book at some point because the protagonist was making too many terrible decisions and I couldn’t help the irritation I felt at her actions.

I honestly didn't know how to begin the review of this novel. Before now, I'll open my document and watch the arrow tick for minutes without being able to type out a single word. I guess it was because I was still held under the poignant spell of the book and it took me days to get over it.
The Hate You Give by Angie Thomas is a young adult novel that tells the story of Starr Carter. A sixteen year old, living in a poor black neighborhood called Garden Heights but attends a prominent white school, Williamson Prep.

The book The Book of Night Women is a recommended text in my literature class, under the topic Issues in Caribbean Fiction. The book is authored by James Marlon and it’s a total of 343 pages.
I felt a little bored when I saw the type of English used but I decided to give it the benefit of doubt and read in. As a natural lover of literature and a curious reader, my interest was piqued in no time. To make my reading much more worthwhile, I’ve decided to be a story reteller by sharing a summary of each chapter here. First, I’m doing this because I think this will help me get through the rest of the pages. Additionally, I’m aware there are people who dislike reading books with many pages and one with a type of diction that will take a while or two to comprehend. So please be my audience!

Texts are always intertextual, that is, there are hidden gems for those who know the added contextual layer. Intertextual writing is basically the text communicating and being built upon many other texts, without the author (i) explicitly telling us the route one should take to understand the hidden texts, or (ii) that the author is even aware of this process. Writing is subconscious in the sense that we are not always aware of where our ideas come from. The text is never produced in isolation and neither is the text read in isolation.

Nearly 20 years after my first encounter with it, this remains one of the most exciting and beautiful adventures I've ever embarked upon through reading. The story is about a tamed wolf-wild dog that learns to grow up amidst the conflict of nature and man, torn between an inherent instinct for solitude and the need for security under the rule of human-gods. But this is no ordinary wolf; it is a superior representative of its kind, strong and ruthless, a terror to all similar to him.

What is Hive Book Club?
Hive Book Club is a community made by book lovers, for book lovers. A place where the chaotic minds of writers may punch away words from their keyboards as they share their writing adventures. Where passionate book collectors may rummage through their stacks of books to share and review their latest additions. Outside of our regular curation process, we may create contests for our community to participate in, and earn even more from their posts. How Do We Choose The Highlighted Posts?
For those of you curious as to how you may have been chosen or would like to be chosen in the future in one of these compilations: we scan through the community and read the many posts that the community members write. We then select four or five posts that we believe meet certain criteria and are worthy of sharing with the rest of the community. We aim to keep these selections diverse in style, from writing skills or subject matter.
