Happy New year hive folks. I think I've said that before, lol but still; happy New year again. I hope we all crush our goals for the year. Speaking of goals, one of mine for 2025 is to read a minimum of 12 books. That averages one book a month. I'm talking, buying a physical book, not and not an electronic copy. That averages one book per month. I'm pretty sure I will surpass that, but we'll see. I visited my family for new year's day, and as I was returning I was looking out for the book vendor I usually see by the road side. When I saw him and all the books he'd laid up, I was full of joy. I reckon the folks passing by would have wondered what made me so excited about sighting books. I saw quite a number of good options and I genuinely didn't know which one to go with. At first I took the book Surrounded by Idiots by Thomas Erikson but I wasn't too stoked after reading the synopsis then, David Robson's The intelligence Trap caught my eye because I sort of resonate with that. Have you ever wondered, Why do intelligent people sometimes make poor decisions? I have a good feeling the book offers an answer to this questions and more.

When planning something in my life, I always wondered how I was going to achieve it. I would venture blindly into the foundations of improvisation, hoping to find the success I dreamed of. If I started something new, I would soon become frustrated at not seeing the results. I doubted my own ability and talent, while more and more I was overcome by the impostor syndrome. I can say that my way of seeing things was chaotic: I could not find harmony between what I wanted and what I had to do to achieve it. Furthermore, I lived in a constant bubble of fear and insecurities, and above all disappointment. In my mind, the reflection of finding a solution was distant and gray.

Again and again, I found a motivational book. Strangely, sometimes motivational books are too beautiful to read but too difficult to implement. Events in a person's life seem to be enjoyable and become self-reflection. Am I able to do it? Of course, that's what always becomes my turmoil.Good fortune always comes to anyone who wants to try. At the age of 35 now, I thought everyone wanted success, but who would have thought that a person's motivational book became a success that could be read until the end, it would be very grateful to be able to do it. Everyday busyness certainly can't make us finish reading several books in the library.

To start off, I want to share that my 2024 reading challenge was 30 books, which I reached by the skin of my teeth. I finished reading on the same December 31 night. I could have read earlier, but I love to leave everything to the last minute so I can feel the adrenaline rush. Ha ha ha ha. From these 30 books, I picked my top 5, these were not necessarily 5 stars, but they did fill my heart and brighten my life.

Hello, good evening to all book lovers. Today I close my cycle of physical readings of the year 2024, with a work that I had been developing for several months. It is “The Portrait of Dorian Gray”, a novel that most have heard of, although I do not know if everyone has read, but that we know because it has also been broadcast on screen.

I leave several readings on pause this year, hoping to complete them next year, but I managed to complete some in these 12 months, maybe more than in 2023.

Heidegger wrote this in 1946, and it was published the following year. The writing was prompted by a letter referenced by Heidegger in this open response, which the French philosopher Jean Beaufret sent him, asking: "How can we restore meaning to the word 'humanism'?" Beaufret was referring to the tragedy of the recent world wars and the ruined state of Europe. How could one defend something—humanity—that had caused so much destruction and pain?

This work is structured in several sections which are the 12 months after the love breakup of the protagonist, and each day is centered around a particular letter that never reached its addressee. Through these letters, Eärfalas explores universal themes such as love, loss, loneliness and redemption. These letters begin with the end of a relationship and in each letter we are reminded that sometimes words never spoken carry more weight than those that are spoken. The prose is evocative and poetic, capturing the essence of each emotion with exquisite precision. In addition, the letters are accompanied by reflections from the author, offering the reader a deeper look at the context and circumstances surrounding each undelivered message, making each section not just a read, but an immersive experience that invites introspection and empathy.

Entering the work is like walking in the insatiable search of the man, who, about to turn 90, decides to contact a friend of many years ago, Rosa Cabarcas, a midwife, with the objective of hiring the services of a prostitute. The only condition was that she had to be young and a virgin. She sees the request as a bit difficult, but after a while she calls him telling him with the news that she had found the right one.

I think from the very first pages, the way the author narrates this story can completely grab you... it's as if you are really sitting with a friend telling you a long and deep story, full of details that you can't help but imagine clearly, the story of this book follows Valentina and Gabriel, a couple that might seem common on the surface, but who together represent one of the most genuine relationships that surely many of you can read. From how they meet to how they evolve over the decades...their lives feel so real that you could play that you are reading someone's memories.... Valentina is a very brave and feisty woman who constantly defies the stereotypes of her time, and Gabriel is a dreamy soul, full of tenderness and determination.. their relationship has difficult and painful moments, but never loses that thread of authenticity that makes you want to keep reading.

What is Hive Book Club?

Hive Book Club is a community made by book lovers, for book lovers. A place where the chaotic minds of writers may punch away words from their keyboards as they share their writing adventures. Where passionate book collectors may rummage through their stacks of books to share and review their latest additions. Outside of our regular curation process, we may create contests for our community to participate in, and earn even more from their posts. If you have a certain theme for a future contest you would like to see, let us know! Be sure to check with us frequently on our various social media platforms to avoid missing out!

How Do We Choose The Highlighted Posts?

For those of you curious as to how you may have been chosen or would like to be chosen in the future in one of these compilations: we scan through the community and read the many posts that the community members write. We then select four or five posts that we believe meet certain criteria and are worthy of sharing with the rest of the community. We aim to keep these selections diverse in style, from writing skills or subject matter.

Hence, throughout the week, the moderators will check the community and manually handpick the posts. Some factors include the post subject, post quality, engagement, personal voice, and general effort. If we choose you, or you happen to stumble across these highlights, please do check out the other posts we feature, and contribute to their curation and engagement!

On the other hand, in response to the question: Which book would you recommend for the theme of new beginnings? Without a second thought, it would be the “Library of New Beginnings” by Japanese author Michiko Aoyama. A short but substantial novel of which I made brief comments about four months ago: https://hive.blog/hive-131951/@janaveda/que-es-lo-que-buscas-or-club-de-lectura-or-impresiones-sobre-la-biblioteca-de-los-nuevos-comienzos-de-michiko-aoyama-spa-eng
