El día de hoy estoy muy complacida de hablarles y dar una pequeña reseña acerca de la última lectura que he tenido: Antes de diciembre. Debo empezar admitiendo que este fue uno de los libros a los que más me he resistido de leer, pues, a pesar de que es tendencia en plataformas como la de wattpad, instagram y tiktok, nunca sentí algún verdadero impulso por conocer de qué iba realmente la historia. Me apena decir que desde el inicio pensé que sería un libro más por el que la generación joven se enganchaba, sin tener verdaderamente un buen argumento literario que pudiera atraparme.

Today I'm very pleased to talk to you and give you a little review about the latest read I've had: Before December. I must start by admitting that this was one of the books I've resisted reading the most, because, despite it's trending on platforms like wattpad, instagram and tiktok, I never felt any real urge to know what the story was really about. I'm sad to say that from the beginning I thought it would be just another book that the younger generation was hooked by, without truly having a good literary plot that could grab me.
Antes de contarles como me pareció exactamente el libro, solo voy a aclarar que me equivoqué y este libro ha significado para mí mucho más de lo que alguna vez podría haber esperado. Y es por esto, que voy a intentar hacer un buen resumen acerca de qué trata la historia, para poder convencerte hasta que también vayas a leerlo.
Before I tell you how exactly I found the book, I'm just going to clarify that I was wrong and this book has meant much more to me than I ever could have expected. And that's why I'm going to try to give you a good summary of what the story is about, so that I can convince you to go and read it as well.

Antes de diciembre relata la historia de Jenna Brown, una joven de 18 años que ha terminado el instituto y decide empezar a estudiar en una universidad muy lejos del pueblo en el que nació. Jenna solo sabe una cosa: que tiene hasta diciembre para decidir si quiere seguir estudiando ahí o quiere regresar a la casa donde le espera ansiosamente su familia.
Realmente no tiene ninguna gran expectativa, su única intención es superar ese semestre y poder alejarse un poco de todo lo que la ha estado rodeando durante 17 años. Para su sorpresa, no todo empieza como ella lo esperaba, pues en el momento que Jenna pisa la universidad, su novio le deja claro una cosa: a partir de ese momento llevaran una relación abierta, ya que el tiempo y la distancia son demasiado grandes, y los sentimientos que sienten el uno por el otro son tan fuertes que no hay nada que pueda interponerse entre ellos, o… ¿eso pensaba Jenna?
Es ahí es cuando aparece Jack Ross, el mejor amigo del novio de su compañera de habitación, también conocido como el chicho de los recados. Jenna no esperaba que Jack, con sus interminables bromas e incondicional apoyo, calara en su interior hasta hacerle sentir algo que nunca había experimentado en su vida.
Before December tells the story of Jenna Brown, an 18-year-old girl who has finished high school and decides to start studying at a university far away from the town where she was born. Jenna only knows one thing: she has until December to decide if she wants to continue studying there or if she wants to return home where her family is anxiously awaiting her.
She doesn't really have any great expectations, her only intention is to get through that semester and be able to get away from everything that has been surrounding her for 17 years. To her surprise, not everything starts as she expected, because the moment Jenna sets foot in the university, her boyfriend makes one thing clear: from that moment on they will have an open relationship, since time and distance are too great, and the feelings they have for each other are so strong that nothing can come between them, or... did Jenna think so?
That's when Jack Ross, her roommate's boyfriend's best friend, also known as the errand boy, shows up. Jenna didn't expect Jack, with his endless teasing and unconditional support, to get under her skin and make her feel something she'd never experienced before in her life

My opinion
Como dije anteriormente, nunca me esperé que un libro como Antes de diciembre pudiera representar algo más allá que un simple romance juvenil lleno de clichés, pero para mi sorpresa, ha pasado a ser una de las historias más increíbles que he leído. Hacía mucho tiempo que no me quedaba enganchada a un libro sin poder dejar de leerlo en todo el día, y Antes de diciembre me regresó eso y trajo consigo la bella sensación de que nunca podría superar haber conocido sus personajes.
La verdad es que me ha parecido algo fresco, adictivo y más profundo de lo que aparenta. El libro se ha encargado de mostrar la realidad de las relaciones, cómo podemos confundir los actos egoístas por amor y también nos da una perspectiva de la importancia que tienen las buenas compañías en la vida. Fue gratificante descubrir la evolución de los personajes principales, dejándonos una visión más dulce de cómo podríamos apreciar las virtudes y los defectos de las personas.
As I said before, I never expected that a book like Before December could represent something beyond a simple teen romance full of clichés, but to my surprise, it has turned out to be one of the most incredible stories I've ever read. It's been a long time since I've been hooked on a book and not been able to put it down all day, and Before December brought that back and brought with it the beautiful feeling that I could never get over meeting its characters.
The truth is that I found it to be fresh, addictive and deeper than it appears. The book took care to show the reality of relationships, how we can mistake selfish acts for love and also gives us a perspective on the importance of good company in life. It was gratifying to discover the evolution of the main characters, leaving us with a sweeter view of how we might appreciate people's virtues and flaws.
Recuerdo haberme dicho meses antes lo tanto que extrañaba reírme leyendo un libro, y es por eso que considero que ese también fue un factor fundamental para que me gustara tanto Antes de Diciembre. Yo no pude parar de reírme durante toda la historia con las ocurrencias de Ross y su grupo de amigos.
Fue increíble ser consciente de esa clase de amor que te demuestran los personajes principales, dejándote con las indudables ganas de tu poder experimentarlo algún día y poder ser partícipe de sentimientos y acciones tan sinceras.
I remember telling myself months before how much I missed laughing while reading a book, and that's why I think that was also a major factor in my liking Before December so much. I can't stop laughing throughout the entire story with the witticisms of Ross and his group of friends.
It was amazing to be aware of that kind of love that the main characters show you, leaving you with the undoubted desire to experience it someday and be able to be a part of such sincere feelings and actions.
Me sentí en la necesidad de escribir esto porque la verdad no quiero que sean como yo y desperdicien un momento más de su vida sin haber conocido la excelente trama en la que te sumerge este libro, ya que después de todo, siento que me ha enseñado que buscar descubrir lo que somos, es un paso fundamental para encontrar la felicidad.

I felt the need to write this because I really don't want you to be like me and waste another moment of your life without having known the excellent plot in which this book immerses you, because after all, I feel that it has taught me that seeking to discover what we are, is a fundamental step to find happiness.
