Todos tenemos una autora que hace libros que nos llevan a la obsesión, y esa es Mercedes Ron para mí. Hoy me gustaría hablarte acerca de uno de sus libros, que una vez más me ha dejado con la boca abierta y ganas de seguir disfrutando de su trabajo.
Yo había conocido anteriormente a Mercedes por su primera trilogía: Culpables. Esos libros marcaron un antes y después en mi vida, en cuanto a la literatura juvenil. Creo que esos libros fueron los primeros en dejarme realmente enganchada con sus personajes, sin poder superar no seguir teniendo más historias de ellos. Y bueno, él hecho es, que para mi Mercedes estaba en la más alta estima por producirme eso con sus libros; por lo que en el momento que vi que se había atrevido a sacar otros libros, iba a volverme loca de la emoción.
We all have an author who makes books that drive us to obsession, and that's Mercedes Ron for me. Today I would like to talk to you about one of her books, which once again has left me with my mouth open and wanting to continue enjoying her work.
I had previously known Mercedes for her first trilogy: Culpables. Those books marked a before and after in my life, in terms of juvenile literature. I think those books were the first to leave me really hooked on their characters, and I couldn't get over not having more stories about them. And well, the fact is, that for me Mercedes was in the highest esteem for producing that with her books; so the moment I saw that she had dared to bring out other books, I was going to go crazy with excitement.
La primera impresión que tuve con la portada de "Marfil" no fue demasiada buena. Sí, definitivamente en bonita, pero no me inspiraba ese romance juvenil-adictivo que yo estaba buscando, y que sabía que solo podía conseguir con Mercedes Ron; efectivamente, no se trataba de un romance juvenil. Su género es young-adult, y sigue ese cliché en el que la chica se enamora de su guardaespaldas y... Ehh, no; no era mi estilo de libro para nada. Nunca me había atrevido a leer ese tipo de historias y tampoco quería empezarlo en ese momento, por lo que lo postergué lo más posible hasta que no pude resistirlo más.
Luego de estar tiempo evitándolo, me enfrenté a un bloqueo lector, y me convencí de que quizás Mercedes podía lograr que me latiera nuevamente el corazón cuando leía; gracias a Dios, no me equivoqué. Me parece muy gracioso ahora porque la verdad es que igualmente le tenía cero expectativas al libro, estaba casi segura de que no iba a funcionar pero... sorpresa, sorpresa, resulta que de los libros que se espera menos una recibe más.
The first impression I had with the cover of "Marfil" was not too good. Yes, it's definitely pretty, but it didn't inspire that young-adult romance I was looking for, which I knew I could only get with Mercedes Ron; indeed, it didn't pull off a young-adult romance. Its genre is young-adult, and it follows that cliché where the girl falls in love with her bodyguard and.... Ehh, no; it wasn't my style of book at all. I had never dared to read that kind of story and I didn't want to start it at that time either, so I put it off as long as possible until I couldn't resist it anymore.
After avoiding it for a while, I faced a reader's block, and I was convinced that maybe Mercedes could make my heart beat again when I read; thank God, I wasn't wrong. I find it really funny now because the truth is that I also had zero expectations for the book, I was almost sure it wasn't going to work but... surprise, surprise, it turns out that from books you expect less you get more.

Sí, su sinopsis es bastante corta, y siento que esa es una de las razones por la cual al principio no parece la gran cosa. De hecho, a primera vista solo parece un libro cualquiera, que no se atreve a causar realmente un verdadero efecto en el lector. Y aún así, que gratificante saber que Mercedes no me decepcionó.
Creo que desde el principio el libro tiene una trama en la que te deja intrigado. Exactamente ese era uno de los factores que me aterraba del libro; a mi algo me decía que sería de misterio con un romance poco desarrollado, por lo que me desanimaba sumergirme en algo como eso. No tengo nada contra ese género, pero la verdad es que siento que no son el tipo de trama que me dejan impresionada.
Y bueno, sí, el libro cuenta con un poco de suspenso, pero la verdad es que es realmente perfecto. La química que desde el comienzo va surgiendo en los personajes no deja de alentarte a que sigas descubriendo más de ellos, ya que nos encontramos con ese tipo de parejas que son completamente lo opuesto, sin dejar de lado que la atracción entre ellos está estrictamente prohibida, pues se encuentra en posiciones poco alentadoras para que ocurra algo entre ellos de la manera correcta.
Yes, its synopsis is quite short, and I feel that's one of the reasons why at first it doesn't seem like a big deal. In fact, at first glance it just seems like an ordinary book that doesn't really dare to make a real impact on the reader. And yet, how gratifying to know that Mercedes didn't let me down.
I think from the very beginning the book has a plot in which it leaves you intrigued. Exactly that was one of the factors that terrified me about the book; to me something told me it would be a mystery with an underdeveloped romance, so I was discouraged to dive into something like that. I have nothing against that genre, but the truth is that I feel like they're not the kind of plots that leave me impressed.
And well, yes, the book has a bit of suspense, but the truth is that it's really perfect. The chemistry that from the beginning is emerging in the characters does not stop encouraging you to keep discovering more of them, as we find that kind of couples who are complete opposites, not to mention that the attraction between them is strictly forbidden, as it is in positions that are not very encouraging for them to precede something between them in the right way.
La historia no paraba de impresionarme, ya que en parte nos enfrentábamos a una relación poco común y a la incertidumbre de la situación que los había obligado a juntarse. Considero que se sale en muchísimas ocasiones completamente del cliché.
Mercedes tiene la habilidad de hacer que sus personajes sean muy realistas. Todos los sentimientos que son abarcados en el libro son lo suficientemente verdaderos, para hacerte sentir que lo estás viviendo tú mismo. Fueron muchos momentos en los que casi me caí de la impresión por los diversos giros que tenían los acontecimientos, lo que hacía que todo se tornara cada vez más interesante y el apego a los personajes inquebrantable.
Creo que tiene un final que te deja lo bastante estupefacto, ya que puede que muchos no se lo esperen por los despistes que están sucediendo normalmente en el libro para que no te imagines lo que realmente está pasando. Por suerte, cuenta con su segundo libro (Ébano), y no nos deja en el martirio del primero, sino que podemos adentrarnos mucho más en la historia y ver la asombrosa evolución de los personajes. Simplemente, maravilloso.
The story never ceased to impress me, since in part we were confronted with an unusual relationship and the uncertainty of the situation that had forced them to get together. I consider that in many occasions it is completely out of the cliché.
Mercedes has the ability to make her characters very realistic. All the feelings that are covered in the book are true enough to make you feel like you are living it yourself. There were many moments where I almost fell over with shock at the various twists and turns of events, which made everything more and more interesting and the attachment to the characters unwavering.
I think it has an ending that leaves you stunned enough, as many may not expect it because of the cliffhangers that are usually happening in the book so that you don't figure out what is really going on. Luckily, it has its second book (Ébano), and we are not left in the martyrdom of the first, but can go much deeper into the story and see the amazing evolution of the characters. Simply wonderful.
