Usually many people will review films that will be filmed, but this time the unique thing is, I will review a book that has been made into a film. The film is quite popular in the market, especially in Asia, but the novel is also no less exciting the world than usual. This time I will review a little novel by Kevin Kwan: Crazy Rich Asian.

So, this Crazy Rich Asian tells the story of people of Chinese descent but they are rich people who live in Singapore. Well, so we will know what will often happen in the culture of Chinese descendants in Singapore which is told in full in this book. So, what I know for sure, we will really imagine how their very glamorous life is.

In this novel, it almost tells each character, one by one what their life is like, so you will be confused about who is the main character. The story is really very detailed in each character, including several other characters such as Astrid and friends. But don't worry, the story tends to focus on Nick and Rachel, they are two people and a pair of lovers who are told a lot, although there will be many stories from their two families that will also be told in detail. This book is very thick, around 460 pages that will keep you from getting bored.

Then what I got in this novel is about Chinese culture itself, how the distance between Peranakan Chinese and mainland Chinese. The author also tells from the perspective of Nick and Rachel's age, and also those of Chinese descent who live in New York. There will definitely be a difference between Chinese people who have their own circle and Chinese people who have different circles. From this novel we can see that there are different thoughts from our perspective as readers.

This novel is truly extraordinary in telling the very rich culture of Chinese people, for example, like those who are only friends or greet each other according to their equality. There are also Nick and Rachel who are fed up with such classic ways, all of which make the lives of Nick and Rachel who love each other disturbed by such caste differences.

A great example of this culture is how people who have just become rich, not old money, will be very different from people who have been rich for a long time, they can't enter the circle or it will even be very difficult to penetrate the circle. Then here it is also told that the difference is not only in gender, but also in their wealth. You will not be accepted if you marry an ordinary rich person, you may not even be invited into your own circle. So, gender is no longer one aspect where you can be looked down upon.

From this novel, I got the perspective of the culture of the super rich Chinese community from Nick and Rachel's POV which will be very different from older people. Here Nick and Rachel are still in their early 30s, so those who are much older will appreciate the culture more.

I really appreciate the author, Kevin Kwan, who has written very well about the Chinese community from his perspective, who is also of Chinese descent. How can he tell all of that so clearly. It's really beyond expectations.

One of my favorite things from this novel is actually the story of Astrid who is the third character that I like. The story really touched me, even to the point of thinking that what he did was really unreasonable. If you are curious then read this novel! It was truly an unexpected reading experience.
