There is no doubt that Haruki Murakami is a writer with high imagination. Every era, the world is filled with people like that, Murakami is one of them. Until now, Murakami's work is still relatable to life, even tending to be able to read the future.
This is my first novel from Haruki Murakami's work. Because there was a novel on the table, it was my wife's novel and I started to be interested in his work. Unlike usual, I don't really like novels and tend to read self-improvement books, especially non-fiction. I even tend to prefer comics, anime or Manga.
But, when reading Haruki Murakami, it was like entering a fairly deep hole, it turned out that his writing style was very mature and also had a very deep touch. It can be said, Haruki Murakami has his own style and characteristics. From then on, I liked Murakami's work which is more suitable for adults to read.
Norwegian Wood is one of the novels that is suitable for those who want to start liking Murakami's novels. He has many novel titles, but Norwegian Wood is one of the best sellers. From the title taken from a song in the novel that is liked by a woman named Naoko, a woman who is the first love of a man named Watanabe Toru.
Naoko is a girl who has beauty, uniqueness and also problems related to her personality psychologically. However, Toru Watanabe likes her until he finally meets another woman who is very cheerful, Midori. A fairly simple love triangle story but the plot is so slow in this novel. However, if we look at Murakami's characteristics who like to make his story so slow and build the reader's emotions, that is the plus point of this novel.
Starting with the story of Toru, Kizuki, Naoko, Midori and Reiko. This novel is truly heartbreaking for readers. This novel is not only about the love story of its characters, but there is something more interesting than that. A novel that can make me ask a little with an ending that seems too 'open' and I don't even understand what Toru is like in the end. But what is clear is that the story of Norwegian Wood seems to speed up the ending too much, I even feel like I need a second season.
426 pages that might be able to accompany loneliness and even after reading this I also feel lonely. But it seems that the style of language of this novel is too strong to deceive me. Indeed, basically this novel seems to have supernatural powers that can make people fail to move on related to Naoko, the girl who doesn't even recognize herself.
Of course, Murakami's work does not come out of the plot that has a story including; sex, romance, loneliness, mediocrity and despair. Murakami has a different story than other novels and this is a work that does not require clarity in thinking but we can enter a big hole made by Toru.
One of the novels that I think deserves appreciation with its story which was first published in 1987. I thought this type of novel didn't exist at that time and it was a very modern work from time to time.
