Warhammer 40,000 showcases the idea that there aren't really any "good guys" among the factions in the universe. Humanity is ruled by a theocratic totalitarian dictatorship. Rebel factions are usually influenced by alien hybrids who are advanced scouts for a horde of ravenous monsters, literal demonic influences warping people into monstrosities, or the like. The Sisters of Battle are among the more religiously motivated forces in the Imperium of Man, so no surprise they have such an attitude toward killing and death.
