Hello, my dear reader friends, I hope you are well today, I am great today, I am looking forward to sharing with you a new review, I am going to tell you about a book that I really liked a lot, it is called: Elisa, the unexpected rose by Liliana Bodoc... if you do not know her, she was an Argentine writer and poet, a total genius in juvenile literature ... this was the last novel she wrote before she passed away in 2018, and I swear, it is one of those stories that mark you, the novel introduces us to Elisa, a 14 year old girl who lives in a villa in Santa Fe..and just so we understand well, in Argentina when we say “villa” it is not a country house, no, it is a humble neighborhood, just like those places where people put together their houses with what they can, you know what I mean?
Elisa's life is hard... her parents leave her to pursue their dream of being famous with their cumbia band, and leave her in the care of her grandmother, to help with the expenses, Elisa starts working as an ironer in a boarding school, and there she meets Beatriz, a volunteer girl who opens the doors to the world of poetry... from the beginning, the book feels like something more than a simple story... it's a journey, but one of those journeys, but one that is not a simple story. it is a journey, but one of those that move you inside, Elisa does not feel comfortable in the place where she lives, but when she travels to the north of the country, she does not find the way out she expected, and without telling you much to avoid spoilers, let's say that in that trip strong things happen to her, even related to human trafficking, the author handles this topic with incredible care... she does not show strong scenes, but she does not escape to reality... it is something that leaves you thinking, but at the same time you can tell that she respects the reader a lot.
Holaa, mis queridos amigos lectores, espero que hoy se encuentren bien, yo me encuentro genial el día de hoy, con muchas ganas de compartir con ustedes una nueva reseña, les voy a contar de un libro que de verdad me gustó mucho, se llama: Elisa, la rosa inesperada de Liliana Bodoc.. si no la conocen, era una escritora y poeta argentina, una genia total en literatura juvenil.. esta fue la última novela que escribió antes de fallecer en 2018, y les juro, es de esas historias que te marcan, la novela nos presenta a Elisa, una chica de 14 años que vive en una villa de Santa Fe..y para que entendamos bien, en Argentina cuando decimos "villa" no es una casa de campo, no, es un barrio humilde, así como esos lugares donde la gente se arma sus casas con lo que puede, ¿me entienden?
La vida de Elisa es dura.. los padres la dejan botada para irse a perseguir el sueño de ser famosos con su banda de cumbia, y la dejan al cuidado de la abuela, para ayudar con los gastos, Elisa empieza a trabajar de planchadora en un internado, y ahí conoce a Beatriz, una chica voluntaria que le abre las puertas al mundo de la poesía.. desde el comienzo, el libro se siente como algo más que una simple historia.. es un viaje, pero de esos que te mueven por dentro, Elisa no se siente cómoda en el lugar donde vive, pero cuando viaja al norte del país, tampoco encuentra la salida que esperaba, y sin contarles mucho para no spoilear, digamos que en ese viaje le pasan cosas fuertes, incluso se relaciona con la trata de personas la autora maneja este tema con un cuidado increíble.. no se pone a mostrar escenas fuertes, pero tampoco se escapa a la realidad.. es algo que te deja pensando, pero a la vez se nota que respeta mucho al lector.
One of the things that blew my mind was how the book mixes Elisa's battles with the outside world and her personal journey, it's not just about surviving tough situations, it's about finding herself, by the end, the girl tries to change, but also learns to embrace her sexuality, her way of being and even her roots, that's what gives it that real flavor. . it's not drama for drama's sake, but to see how she puts herself back together after the disasters... the author writes with a unique energy, she has a magic to make even the simplest sentences sound poetic, each chapter starts with a verse, and there is one that stuck in my head: "Look to the side that no one points out, that's where the unexpected rose grows ”.
The rhythm... neither too slow nor rushed, the chapters hook you so much that you will end up saying “just one more” and bam, you finished it all, haha... the characters have a realism that hurts, Elisa is a mixture of fragility, courage and contradictions that even she doesn't understand. Beatriz, the volunteer, seems like a secondary character but she is key in her life... and not to mention Martin, that guy who appears just when Elisa hits rock bottom, they all have their background and connect in a super nice way. If I have to look for something negative, perhaps it lacked depth in the relationship with Elisa's parents, their absence weighs heavily, but we do not see much of how she processes it... and although the simple language gives it spark, sometimes I would have liked more detail to get me full in the scenarios but seriously, they are small details in a book that is totally worth it.
Una de las cosas que me voló la cabeza fue cómo el libro mezcla las batallas de Elisa con el mundo exterior y su viaje personal, no es solo sobrevivir situaciones duras, sino de encontrarse a sí misma, para el final, la chica intenta cambiar, pero también aprende a abrazar su sexualidad, su forma de ser y hasta sus raíces, eso es lo que le da ese sabor a real.. no es el drama por el drama, sino ver cómo se arma de nuevo después de los desastres.. la autora escribe con una energía única, tiene una magia para que hasta las frases más simples suenen poéticas, cada capítulo arranca con un verso, y hay uno que me quedó en la cabeza: «Mirar al lado que nadie señala, ahí es donde crece la rosa inesperada».
El ritmo pues.. ni muy lento ni apurado, los capítulos te enganchan tanto que vas a terminar diciendo «solo uno más» y pum, te lo acabaste todo, jaja.. los personajes tienen un realismo que duele, Elisa es una mezcla de fragilidad, valentía y contradicciones que ni ella misma entiende. Beatriz, la voluntaria, parece un personaje secundario pero es clave en su vida.. y ni hablar de Martín, ese chico que aparece justo cuando Elisa toca fondo, todos tienen su trasfondo y se conectan de una forma súper linda. Si tengo que buscar algo negativo, quizás le faltó profundizar en la relación con los padres de Elisa, su ausencia pesa mucho, pero no vemos mucho de cómo lo procesa ella.. y aunque el lenguaje sencillo le da chispa, en algunas ocasiones me hubiera gustado más detalle para meterme full en los escenarios pero en serio, son detallitos en un libro que vale total la pena.
This book will touch the hearts of a lot of people, especially kids and young adults who are in that “who the hell am I?” stage. But, even the most adult who values a story about rising from the bumps and finding oneself will be hooked, it's not just an entertaining book; it's one of those that leaves your brain spinning with themes like privilege, society's indifference, and pretending not to see when something doesn't touch you. I give Elisa, the Unexpected Rose a solid 4.5/5. It is very emotional, with a prose that breaks your soul. Why not 5? Well, because of those little details of development in some characters and scenarios that were a little short, but that doesn't diminish how great this story is, it's one of those that touches your heart... If you are looking for something that stirs you up inside and makes you question things, this is the book for you! The author gave us a gem with her latest novel, one of those that you have to read, and discuss in the park with a coffee, it's worth it... and well, that's all for today, I hope you liked it, see you in the next reviews, take care, byebye.
Este libro les va a tocar el corazón a un montón de gente, sobre todo a los chicos y jóvenes que andan en esa etapa de «¿quién diablos soy?» Pero, hasta el más adulto que valore una historia de levantarse de los golpes y encontrarse a sí mismo va a engancharse, no es solo un libro entretenido; es de esos que te dejan el cerebro dando vueltas con temas como el privilegio, la indiferencia de la sociedad y eso de hacerse el que no ve cuando algo no te toca a ti. Le doy a Elisa, la rosa inesperada, un sólido 4.5/5. Es muy emocional, con una prosa que te parte el alma. ¿Por qué no 5? Pues por esos detallitos de desarrollo en algunos personajes y escenarios que quedaron medio cortitos, ñero, eso no le baja lo genial que es esta historia, es de esas que te llegan al corazón..Si buscan algo que les revuelva por dentro y les haga cuestionarse cosas, ¡este es su libro! La autora nos regaló una joya con su última novela, una de esas que hay que leer,y debatir en el parque con un café, vale mucho la pena.. y bueno, eso es todo por hoy, espero que les haya gustado, nos veremos en las próximas reseñas, cuidense, byebye.
