Hello everyone, I hope you are doing great, reading fans friends... this time I bring you a new review, with my opinions, of a book that I finished recently, it is the novel: Love Letters to the Dead (en Español: Cartas de Amor a los Muertos) by Ava Dellaira... honestly, after finishing it, I ended up with many mixed feelings about it... it is one of those books that really leaves you thoughtful, I couldn't decide if I loved it or just left me emotionally exhausted.. it's all about the book that really leaves you thoughtful. honestly, after finishing it, I ended up with a lot of mixed feelings about it... it's one of those books that really leaves you thoughtful, I couldn't decide if I loved it or just left me emotionally drained.. it's quite a journey, sometimes smooth, sometimes fast paced, but it was definitely something memorable. First, I thought the concept was brilliant.. we have Laurel, the main character, a girl who starts writing letters to deceased celebrities as part of a school assignment.. and it all turns into a deeply personal journey of grief, self-discovery and healing, she writes to legends like Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, etc.. which hooked me right away because I'm a fan of anything that mixes fiction with real life figures.
It's worth noting that this book delves very deeply into the lives and struggles of these artists.. beyond just the headlines or the reason for their demises, it shows aspects of their humanity that normally go unnoticed... these biographies intertwine seamlessly with Laurel's main narrative, reflecting her own feelings of loss and confusion. By exploring the inner struggles of figures like Kurt Cobain, Laurel finds parallels to her own emotional journey.. which not only enriches the story, but also gives the reader a much deeper perspective on how art and something as human as grief can co-exist... through these letters, Laurel tries to process her own grief over the death of her sister, May.. and the parallels she finds between her life and theirs are so raw and poignant that.. wow.. you can't help but feel your pain, even when others frustrate you with their decisions, you may end up shedding a tear sooner than you expected.
Hola a todos, espero que se encuentren súper bien, amigos fanáticos de la lectura.. en esta ocasión les traigo una nueva reseña, con mis opiniones, de un libro que terminé hace poco, se trata de la novela: Love Letters to the Dead (en español: Cartas de Amor a los Muertos) de Ava Dellaira.. honestamente, luego de terminarlo, terminé con muchos sentimientos encontrados al respecto.. es de esos libros que realmente te deja pensativo, no pude decidir si me encantó o simplemente me dejó emocionalmente agotado.. es todo un viaje, a veces suave, a veces acelerado, pero definitivamente fue algo memorable. Primero, el concepto me pareció brillante.. tenemos a Laurel, la protagonista, una chica que comienza a escribir cartas a celebridades fallecidas como parte de una tarea escolar.. y todo esto se convierte en un viaje profundamente personal de duelo, autodescubrimiento y sanación, escribe a leyendas como Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, etc.. lo cual me enganchó de inmediato porque soy fan de cualquier cosa que mezcle ficción con figuras de la vida real.
Cabe destacar que este libro profundiza mucho en las vidas y luchas de estos artistas.. más allá de solamente los titulares o de la razón de sus fallecimientos, muestra aspectos de su humanidad que normalmente pasan desapercibidos.. estas biografías se entrelazan perfectamente con la narrativa principal de Laurel, reflejando sus propios sentimientos de pérdida y confusión. Al explorar las luchas internas de figuras como Kurt Cobain, Laurel encuentra paralelismos con su propio viaje emocional.. lo que no solo enriquece la historia, sino que también da al lector una perspectiva mucho más profunda de cómo el arte y algo tan humano como el dolor pueden coexistir.. a través de estas cartas, Laurel intenta procesar su propio dolor por la muerte de su hermana, May.. y los paralelismos que encuentra entre su vida y la de ellos son tan crudos y conmovedores que.. vaya.. no puedes evitar sentir tu dolor, incluso cuando otras te frustran sus decisiones, puedes acabar derramando una lágrima más pronto de lo que esperabas.
Talking a bit about Laurel, she is... complicated.. there were moments when I just wanted to hug her and tell her that everything will be ok, and others when I wanted to scold her, and yell at her: React! Sometimes it may seem selfish and pessimistic, but this just reflects all the complexity that a grieving process has, and how she tries to find her way through all the pain.. she is a teenager dealing with unimaginable trauma, and her journey from being this lost girl to someone who is beginning to embrace love, friendship, and the messiness of adolescence, is one of the strongest elements this book has.
Her evolution feels very authentic, even if it is frustratingly slow, in the end, little by little you see a glimmer of hope, and that is so satisfying in a very quiet way... also noteworthy is the writing style of this author, I found the prose to be detailed and emotional without being too over the top. The way she slowly describes Laurel's thoughts and emotions seemed amazing to me, you can feel like you are there with her, sitting in her room, looking at the ceiling and lost with her in her thoughts.. the simple vocabulary makes it an easy read, but don't mistake that for superficiality, there is a lot of depth in the whole narrative, it's something that really surprises you, especially in the scenes where this girl reflects a lot about her sister or navigates her other complicated relationships.
Now, speaking a bit about the themes, this book does not avoid heavy topics, for example: grief, alcoholism, drugs, homophobia and even sexual abuse.. it's a lot to take in, and while some of these themes are handled well, others feel a bit underdeveloped, for example, the way sexual abuse is addressed I found it shocking, yes, but also abrupt and not given much depth, which it really deserves... it's like the book wants to address a lot of intense things, but doesn't know how to balance it... that's where it stumbles a bit for me.
Hablando un poco de Laurel, ella es.. complicada.. hubo momentos en los que solo quería abrazarla y decirle que todo estará bien, y otros en los que quería regañarla, y gritarle: Reacciona! A veces puede parecer egoísta y pesimista, pero esto solo refleja toda la complejidad que tiene un proceso de duelo, y cómo ella intenta encontrar su camino en medio de todo el dolor.. es una adolescente lidiando con un trauma inimaginable, y su viaje de ser esta chica perdida a alguien que comienza a abrazar el amor, la amistad y el desorden de la adolescencia, es uno de los elementos más fuertes que tiene este libro.
Su evolución se siente muy auténtica, incluso si es frustrantemente lenta, al final, poco a poco vas viendo un rayo de esperanza, y eso es tan satisfactorio de una manera sumamente silenciosa.. también hay que destacar el estilo de escritura de esta autora, la prosa me pareció detallada y emocional sin ser demasiado exageradas. La forma en la que va describiendo poco a poco los pensamientos y emociones de Laurel me pareció increíble, puedes sentir que estás allí con ella, sentado en su habitación, mirando el techo y perdido con ella en sus pensamientos.. el vocabulario simple hace que sea una lectura fácil, pero no confundan eso con superficialidad, hay mucha profundidad en toda la narración, es algo que realmente te sorprende, especialmente en las escenas donde esta chica reflexiona mucho sobre su hermana o navega por sus demás relaciones complicadas.
Ahora, hablando un poco de los temas, este libro no evita temas pesados, por ejemplo: duelo, alcoholismo, drogas, homofobia e incluso el abuso sexual.. es mucho para asimilar, y aunque algunos de estos temas están bien manejados, otros se sienten un poco subdesarrollados, por ejemplo, la forma en la que se aborda el abuso sexual me pareció impactante, sí, pero también abrupta y no se le da mucha profundidad, cosa que realmente merece.. es como si el libro quisiera abordar muchas cosas intensas, pero no supiera cómo equilibrarlo.. allí es donde tropieza un poco para mí.
I found the secondary characters acceptable.. they are there to serve their purpose, either to further Laurel's story or highlight certain themes and traumas, but they don't feel fully developed.. their romantic relationship, for example, starts out intriguing, but eventually falls into cliché, is sweet at times, but also frustratingly predictable.. I wanted so much more from this relationship, especially given how it relates to her grief for her sister, but this doesn't happen.
One of the most striking aspects of the book is its tone, which is undeniably pessimistic.. we see this constantly reflected in Laurel's perceptions, staring at the ceiling in her room, trapped in her spiraling dark thoughts about her sister and her own life.. that said, there are also moments of beauty and light, the letters are deeply personal, and sometimes even funny... her slow realization that her sister May was not perfect, that she was human, with flaws and struggles of her own, is one of the most powerful and moving parts of the book.. it's a reminder that grief is totally messy and not linear, and that's okay.
So who would I recommend this book to? If you enjoyed The Perks of Being Invisible, this book is probably perfect for you.. I feel it's somewhat similar, introspective, character-centered, and a bit melancholy... I also feel it's ideal for anyone who loves stories about grief and healing, or for some other people who are fascinated by the lives of the iconic artists mentioned. Just be aware that it's not going to be a light read.. it's something that can be complicated to read. My final verdict is a 3.8/5. It's a book that is very well written, with a lot of heart, but it's not without major flaws.. the pacing gets slow, the tone is perhaps too heavy, and some of the topics deserved much more attention.. still, I consider it worth it depending on the mood you're in. If you're in the mood for something reflective-emotional, well, I would totally recommend it... and well, that's it for today's review. See you in the next ones. Take care of yourselves. Bye bye.
Los personajes secundarios me parecieron aceptables.. están ahí para cumplir su propósito, ya sea impulsar la historia de Laurel o resaltar ciertos temas y traumas, pero no se sienten completamente desarrollados.. su relación romántica, por ejemplo, comienza siendo intrigante, pero eventualmente cae en lo cliché, es dulce a veces, pero también frustrantemente predecible.. quería mucho más de esta relación, especialmente dado cómo se relaciona con su dolor por su hermana, pero esto no ocurre.
Uno de los aspectos más impactantes del libro es su tono, que es innegablemente pesimista.. veremos esto reflejado constantemente en las percepciones de Laurel, mirando al techo en su habitación, atrapada en su espiral de pensamientos oscuros sobre su hermana y su propia vida.. dicho esto, también hay momentos de belleza y luz, las cartas son profundamente personales, y a veces incluso graciosas.. su lenta realización de que su hermana May no era perfecta, que era humana, con defectos y luchas propias, es una de las partes más poderosas y emotivas del libro.. es un recordatorio de que el duelo es totalmente desordenado y no es lineal, y eso está bien.
Entonces, ¿a quién le recomendaría este libro? Si disfrutaste Las ventajas de ser invisible, probablemente este libro sea perfecto para ti.. siento que es algo similar, introspectivo, centrado en los personajes y un poco melancólico.. también considero que es ideal para cualquiera que ama las historias sobre duelo y sanación, o para algunas otras personas que estén fascinadas por las vidas de los artistas icónicos mencionados. Sólo tengan en cuenta que no va a ser una lectura ligera.. es algo que puede ser complicado de leer. Mi veredicto final es un 3.8/5. Es un libro que está muy bien escrito, con mucho corazón, pero no está exento de fallas importantes.. el ritmo se vuelve lento, el tono tal vez sea demasiado pesado, y algunos de los temas merecían mucha más atención.. aún así, considero que vale la pena dependiendo el ánimo que tengas. Si estás de buen humor para algo reflexivo-emocional, pues te lo recomendaría totalmente.. y bueno, esta sería toda la reseña de hoy. Nos veremos en las próximas. Cuídense mucho. Bye bye.

Lo leí en su momento en pdf y me gustó tanto que me compre el libro. Pero, si te soy sincera, ahora no recuerdo mucho de su trama ni nada, igual es momento de darle una releída. Me encantó tu reseña y siento que me hizo recordar un poco cómo me sentí al leerlo. Sin dudas, es una historia para procesar.
