Are you a hobbit or an Elf? Welcome to Tolkien's Birthday Party

It's only January 4th and I already lived my geekiest experience of the year hahaha. Yesterday J.R.R Tolkien would be 132 years old, so worldwide, the followers of "The Lord of the Rings" and all that great universe created by Tolkien, gather to commemorate it. A few days ago @soy-laloreto told me that this year's meeting would be in my favorite coffee shop so I didn't think twice and joined what would be one of the coolest and different experiences I've lived lately.

El día de ayer J.R.R Tolkien estaría cumpliendo 132 años, así que mundialmente, los seguidores de "El señor de los anillos" y todo ese gran universo creado por Tolkien, se reúnen para conmemorarlo. Hace unos días @soy-laloreto me comentó que la reunión de este año sería en mi cafetería preferida así que no lo pensé dos veces y me uní a la que sería una de las experiencias más geniales y diferentes que he vivido últimamente.

The meeting was organized by Javier Rojas, who coincidentally was one of the devs who was part of the first edition of ConectaTech and of course, will continue to be part of future editions. I really like the Lord of the Rings, but to be honest I don't consider myself one of his biggest fans, and even less after sharing with all the great people who attended the activity and seeing how Tolkien's books accompanied them from an early age, it was touching to hear all their stories and anecdotes related to the books and movies in a space as intimate and special as this coffee shop, which has definitely become my favorite place in Valencia.

La reunión fue organizada por Javier Rojas, quien casualmente fue uno de los devs que formó parte de la primera edición del ConectaTech y que por supuesto, seguirá formando parte en próximas ediciones. Me gusta mucho el señor de los anillos, pero siendo sincera no me considero una de sus mayores seguidoras, y menos después de compartir con todas las personas geniales que asistieron a la actividad y ver como los libros de Tolkien los acompañaron desde temprana edad, fue conmovedor escuchar todas sus historias y anécdotas relacionadas a los libros y a las películas en un espacio tan íntimo y especial como es esta cafetería, la cuál definitivamente se ha convertido en mi lugar preferido de Valencia.

With a lot of passion, Javier told us a little about the writer's life, his family, his talents and curious facts that relate his personal life with his work. I really enjoyed this conversation because I could know more deeply what makes the Lord of the Rings one of the sagas with more followers in the world and it's nice to learn from someone who is notoriously passionate about the subject. Javier even SPEAKS elvish hahaha, I think he could easily be a character from The Big Bang Theory, but I'll tell you more about Javier's geeky talents below 😂

Con mucha pasión, Javier nos comentó un poco sobre la vida del escritor, su familia, sus talentos y datos curiosos que relacionan su vida personal con su obra. Disfruté muchísimo este conversatorio porque pude conocer más profundamente lo que hace que el señor de los anillos sea una de las sagas con más seguidores en el mundo y es bonito aprender de alguien que notoriamente es apasionado del tema. Javier incluso HABLA élfico jajaja, creo que fácilmente puede ser un personaje de The Big Bang Theory, pero ya les contaré más abajo sobre los talentos frikis de Javier 😂

The owners of the coffee shop always encourage this kind of activities related to reading, writing and art, so they prepared a table decorated for the occasion where Javier could place his HUGE collection of Tolkien books in various languages and sizes, including guides to learn Elvish and other deeper things related to the universe created by the writer. Upon arrival we were surprised with a delicious cappuccino courtesy of the house, which brought a smile to my face as it was perfectly frothy and this is one of the things I enjoy most in a good coffee. Another surprise they gave us was a small sheet with our name initial printed on it with a beautiful wax seal, I can't describe how much I love these little things, that level of detail is something that transports me to my happy place.

Los dueños de la cafetería siempre fomentan este tipo de actividades relacionadas a la lectura, escritura y el arte, así que nos prepararon una mesa decorada para la ocasión donde Javier pudo colocar su GRAN colección de libros de Tolkien en varios idiomas y tamaños, incluyendo guías para aprender élfico y otras cosas más profundas relacionadas a universo que creó el escritor. Al llegar nos sorprendieron con un delicioso capuccino cortesía de la casa, lo cual me sacó una sonrisa pues estaba perfectamente espumoso y esta es una de las cosas que más disfruto de un buen café. Otra sorpresa que nos dieron fue una pequeña hoja con la inicial de nuestro nombre impresa con un hermoso sello de cera, no puedo describir lo mucho que me encantan estas pequeñas cosas, ese nivel de detalle es algo que me transporta a mi lugar feliz.

Javier has an incredible talent for Elvish writing (I hope I'm not committing a sin calling it that), he brought several bookmarks made by him with phrases related to the books and the beginning of the year, of course written in Elvish. We did a little raffle of the bookmarks where each person chose a role die, I of course chose a die that I thought was beautiful because it had lilac shades, anything with that color will always catch my attention hahaha. Whoever got the highest number when rolling the dice was the winner of a beautiful bookmark, I wasn't lucky enough to win one, but Javier gave me the beautiful dice because he saw that I loved it, it was great to receive it because I love this kind of details, in fact, I already have it as a decoration for my setup and I'm looking at it while I'm writing this. I think it will help me to take next decisions in my life, I will start to leave everything to chance 😂

Javier tiene un talento increíble para la escritura élfica (espero no estar cometiendo un pecado llamándola así), llevó varios marcalibros realizados por él con frases relacionadas a los libros y al inicio de año, por supuesto que escritos en élfico. Realizamos un pequeño sorteo de los marcalibros donde cada persona eligió un dado de rol, yo por supuesto elegí un dado que me pareció hermoso porque tenía tonalidades en color lila, cualquier cosa que tenga ese color siempre llamará mi atención jajaja. Quien obtuviera el número más alto al girar los dados era el ganador de un hermoso marcalibros, no tuve la suerte de ganar ninguno, pero Javier me regaló el hermoso dado porque vio que me había encantado, fue genial recibirlo porque amo este tipo de detalles, de hecho, ya lo tengo como decoración de mi setup y lo estoy viendo mientras escribo esto. Creo que me ayudará a tomar próximas decisiones en mi vida, empezaré a dejar todo a la suerte 😂

To close the activity, Javier asked us to give him the small sheet with the wax seal that we had been given, because he was going to write our names in Elvish so that we could take this nice detail to our homes, could there be anything cooler than this? As Antoinette was very long, I asked her to write "Luna", so I present to you my pseudonym written in Elvish, isn't it beautiful? Another detail that of course will decorate my setup.

Para cerrar la actividad, Javier nos pidió que le entregáramos la pequeña hoja con el sello de cera que nos habían obsequiado pues les iba a escribir nuestros nombres en élfico para que nos lleváramos ese bonito detalle a nuestras casas, ¿Podría haber algo más genial que esto? Como Antonieta era muy largo, le pedí que escribiera "Luna", así que les presento mi seudónimo escrito en élfico, ¿Acaso no es hermoso? Otro detalle que por supuesto va a decorar mi setup.

I loved this activity, the people who attended had a great vibe and the coolest thing was that it was held in my favorite place. We took the opportunity to set a date for a next meeting to talk about other things besides Tolkien and his universe hahaha maybe learn something about dungeons and dragons or just talk about our tech projects since we are all part of the web 3 ecosystem and networking always brings us something positive. Amé esta actividad, las personas que asistieron tenían muy buena vibra y lo más cool fue que se realizó en mi lugar preferido.
