With the arrival of my latest book shipment, I made the decision to give my books a protective cover. While there are many options available, I chose a simple yet sturdy cover to safeguard my collection. Although I'm still in the process of finding the perfect space for my dream bookshelves, I'm excited about the prospect. The thought of having a cozy book nook where I can read and collect books without the worry of constant movement brings me great joy.
To be fair, my book collection was one of the reasons I was reluctant to move. They were heavy, and I thought transporting them would be too expensive. Apparently, I found a cargo service that does it reasonably, and though I have no intention of moving them anymore, it was good to know that it isn’t expensive to send them.
Collecting books is a special thing to me. This is a lesson I learned from my grandfather, who possessed an extensive collection of the Time-Life series. These books, with their rich content, were the catalyst for my love of reading and my fascination with History. In an age where digital books are more preferred than physical books, the value of a physical book, something that can be passed down through generations, remains unparalleled. That is why, I got inspired by him because that was the thing that I truly thanked him for. I know that not all of his grandchildren reads but his hobby turned me into an avid reader
During a recent cleaning spree, I decided to share some of my science and experiment books with my nephew, who is in elementary school. I also gifted a few to my younger niece and nephew, knowing they would benefit from such books.I hope to inspire them to explore the magazines and books I've shared.
Now, back to giving my book cover...
I forgot that my books come in different sizes, and I just came to the store to buy the regular-sized book. So, I had to do some cutting and still put tape on its edges. This reminds me of an old-fashioned way to cover a book.
Now, with the cover, I won’t have to worry about the edges of the book, which usually become ripped over time, and it also protects the book from dust. These days, I mostly buy e-books, but starting this month, I’d like to keep my old habit of investing in one book/month.
What are your book resolutions for 2025?

Thank you for the insight ... I have inherited a great number of books from my grandparents, and this gives me ideas on how to make sure they last into another generation.
please make sure they last for multiple generation, I think that is a great legacy to have and leave.
It's very beautiful to see someone who shares my interest in preserving books for the future generations.
Seeing this Post has helped to further inspire me to read a little more than normal.
Remember it's always important to keep your books in a dry place to protect them from humidity and fungus.
Definitely, fungus and dust mites can be a huge problem!
What a pleasure to know that you are interested in preserving books over time, in the end it is a great collection. Don't forget also to protect them from humidity, then fungus and its spores are harmful to health.
For the next year I want to take up reading more and read at least one book a month. My work has made me give up the habit of reading, although for my doctorate I spend my time reading articles, but it's not the same.
I've dealt with fungus and humidity before as I was dealing with my grandpa's collection. It was horrible but I learned my lessons from there😅. I even got sick for a couple of days after cleaning his collections.
Reading for study and pleasure are different thing. I read a lot too for my study but it's always stressful, it's definitely different if I read for entertainment and hobby hehe 😆
His collection must be fabulous, and I love that you followed in his grandfather's footsteps. As you say, we are in a digital world and it's hard to see people collecting books. We know that reading fills us with culture and knowledge. Greetings
His collection was awesome. It was a complete history of the world from the beginning to the world war II and post war. Then other collections included things like Photography and some other helpful encyclopedia. I think his footsteps is worth following, I remembered reading Fahrenheit 451 and that also inspired me to preserve book. I know that the novel is dystopian but who knows? something like that might actually happen if we don't preserve it.
I didn't read the book, but I did see the movie a few days ago.
Getting books in hardcopy is also one of my 2025 book resolutions. I read a lot of books this year and 90% were soft copies. I can't wait to have my book collection just like you.
Good luck! What's you top 3 books that you'd love to get?
That is one thing I haven't really planned out. But one book I'm definitely would be among the list is One Hundred Years of Solitude. That's the only one I'm sure of for now
