New Month, A New Book

in Hive Book Clublast year

What Happened in 2023?

Last year was quite an interesting one when it comes to my reading journey. During the first month of the year, I was making quite a difficult reading challenge that I was following up until I traveled. I was following the idea of Lex Friedman who reads one book a week that I find quite challenging. In the end, because I was traveling, it was difficult to keep up. Only from the last couple of months, I got back into reading again.

Here is my previous reading list of 2023.

The good thing is that I managed to read all the books in the list but also in the last few months, I added a newer list into my reading experience. These days, while I am not so reliant on hard copies, I am often reading a PDF version of a book. The last book I reviewed was a book titled The Coffee bean Illustrated Fable by Jon Gordon.

Things that happened since then.....

Since after that, I have been preoccupied with my dad’s funeral and now, my adoptive dad’s at the hospital, I have less time to read. Still, during some breaks, I would read from my phone and manage to finish a few titles such as The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. I will be writing the review very soon after I find time to reflect on it.

2024 on the horizons....

Today, I went to the newest bookstore in town that sells hard copy books but the majority of them are in Bahasa. While I wanted to get a new novel, I ended up captivated by the classics again. There were only a few options on the list and I went with H.G Wells' The War Of The Worlds. As I flipped through the first pages, I found the joy of reading them. It’s such a captivating read and page turner despite being written sometime around 189. Each word in that book complemented each other and it was such a pleasant and easy read. Obviously, I got distracted and didn’t manage to finish it within a few hours.

Although, it definitely doesn't do any justice comparing popular literature with the English classics but I was right to start the year with classics. I don’t have any particular reading goals this year other than perhaps if I have more time, I’d read more and if I have less time, I wouldn’t really push it. I am learning from my last year experience where life can be unpredictable and I was making a lot more goals that I was able to handle.

Reading is important but to consistently read and find joy in them is not easy. Sometimes you might stumble upon a reader’s block, sometimes you don’t find an inspiring read, sometimes the options look very bleak. But after all, that’s part of the reader's journey and one should embrace it. I just hope reading won’t be a lost skill in the future or something that’s gone entirely and only be a history. So, read as much as you can and as long as you can. I don’t think and never think it’s ever a competition.

At the same time, I’ve been enjoying looking at the entries from the latest HBC contest and they are all looking really awesome. It might be difficult to find the winners from them all and the one who grabs 125 Hive. So, stay tuned everyone and great work, I truly appreciate the enthusiasm.

That’s all the first book entry from me, do you guys have any reading plans this year? Let me know.

Sending my deepest condolences to you my friend and stay strong always just like your books in your shelf standing straight waiting for you to open and read them again.🤗Greetings

Thank you! at least I still have books to read and that's enough for me😊

I admire the thinking process of H.G Wells when it comes to writing his books. Time Machine is a favourite of mine! I think taking the time to read a book is one of the best ways to pause or suspend mental agitation and enter a different world :)

Time Machine is a timeless piece and it's one of his work that I enjoyed too. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to pick up the hard copy.

I agree. Stumbled on the movie some time back and gave it a watch. It was also a great work in my view.

I suffer from reader block, and the TV series viewer. After a book I wait for a while, as if it were a duel, it's quite curious. I do the same with anime, and series that I like.

I found this community today thanks to friends on Telegram, I want to start the year by recommending some books that I like. And I saw your post, I really like that they make book recommendations here. Recently I bought some, in English, a language that I do not master because I speak Spanish. I want to learn a new language, and reading can help me a lot.

Good post! Greetings!

Can't wait to see your recommendations in the community. It's pretty normal to suffer from reading blocks and it happens. Even when you only read in Spanish, you can always translate your post to English, so others can also read what you have to say. I am sure you have awesome recommendations too😊

😔 life is shit. We’re all just here for the ride.

It won’t get better but it will hurt less eventually.

That's true! it hurts less eventually.

You haven’t been on WhatsApp!

I sort of changed my number again the last few months and haven't been able to tell people about it yet.

Ah yeah gotcha. I do that every 9 months or so lol
