My review of the book: The Long Walk

in Hive Book Club3 years ago

Hi all! Here I would like to review my favorite book, The Long Walk by Stephen King. I've lost count of how many times I've read this book. Lots of. It seems that the plot is simple, but it hooked me so much and carried me into its world. Every time I read this book it's like it's the first time.

Again, starting to talk about the book, I'll tell you a little about the essence. Fictional world, United States of America. The government came up with a game, a kind of show in which teenage boys aged about 15 to 17 years old come from all over the states. Naturally, before they become participants, the guys must pass a selection, pass a kind of exam.
A competition for a big game has been announced, its essence is very simple. Just a walk, in the morning.

Based on the results of this exam, 100 participants are selected, who will take part in the Long Walk. The organizer of this game is a certain Major, in another translation he is called the Chief. There are also so-called substitutes who can take part if someone from the main team does not come.
Naturally, the game has certain rules, as well as a route that passes through some states. Participants must walk at a certain speed - 4 miles per hour. You can't slow down!
Four miles an hour and no less, This pace must be strictly maintained. It will be hard to go without slowing down at all. Also, don't run too fast. If the participant slows down below the prescribed speed, then a warning is issued to him. If after that it will go an hour without violations, then the warning is canceled, removed. You can safely go with only three warnings. If, after the third, the participant slows down again and does not restore speed, then he will be killed. All the way for the participants, on the sides of the road, escort vehicles drive, on which there are devices that record the speed of the participants. Also, people go to them, whose task is to monitor compliance with the rules, as well as eliminate their violators and losers. For some reason it seems to me.
Three warnings are waiting, and they will not hesitate further. The carbines will be directed, and the broads will shoot! The deceased will soon be forgotten.

The long walk lasts 4 days, and all this time the participants go non-stop. Well, at the end of the only (because everyone else will be killed by then) the winner will receive the coveted prize. As a prize, he can ask for anything, anything he wants.
The book is really awesome. She keeps you in suspense all the time, you worry about the characters. It’s like you yourself become a spectator and start rooting for the guys. The whole plot, in fact, consists of the characters communicating with each other, their life stories and how they got to this game are told.

Ray Garati was my favorite character. He took part in the Long Walk despite the protests of his mother and his girlfriend. The guy steadfastly kept all 4 days and survived! It was he who became the winner. But, unfortunately, he lost his mind and went crazy. Personally, this is how I understood his behavior at the end of the book. Well, how can a person remain normal after this massacre? When he did not sleep, he lived in fear and stress, in addition, he had to cope with his natural needs on the go and in front of spectators who could watch the game. I felt terribly sorry for the guy who basically lost all of his friends that he made while on the Long Walk. Plus, he lost himself.
I advise everyone to read this book. Transfer to that world and feel everything that the participants in the game felt. Also, ask yourself a question. Would you like to take part in the Long Walk? And most importantly, could you survive and win? Could you not go crazy?

Without explaining the rules, one cannot convey all the horror, struggle and despair that runs through the entire book. Can't convey the full range of these feelings. Personally, I would not be able to take part in this hellish game. I just wouldn't survive. I'm not tough, so I'd be killed quickly. Scary, very scary. I hope the plot of this book never comes true. I would not like such a reality, I confess honestly. I'll probably go and read the book again and once again plunge into this story with my head.

And in the end I will put an assessment of this wonderful book. This is definitely 10 out of 10!
I hope you enjoyed my review. Thank you for your attention and happy reading.
