Anyway, the blog that I'm going to share with all of you is something new. Since one of my resolutions this year is to immerse myself in books—I made it a point to read one since January. And now, I'm glad that I finished reading it. And now...I'm ready to share to all of you the learning I got as well as my honest review.

So the title of the book is I Decided to Live as Me by Soo-Hyun-Kim. By the way, I don't have a physical copy of the book. I only have the PDF version of it which I downloaded online. I started reading it last January and it took me about 3 months to finish reading it. Is it quite long? I would have finished it earlier but I do skip days of reading due to some other responsibilities. The most important thing is that I reached the very end of reading it. Are you all excited to know what the book is all about?

LESSONS I'VE LEARNED IN EACH CHAPTER

PART 1

In this part, the author highlights the importance of championing self-respect. It taught me a lesson that no matter what happens, respect should never be understated. Above all, it made me realize that respect can sometimes be earned. Firstly, you respect others regardless of their position, religion, culture and socioeconomic status. But sometimes, mean people would go to great lengths to disrespect you. Unkindness, cruelty and judgemental eyes were shown to you even if you have the purest intention. Thus, you have to be wise enough to show your respect to individuals who only deserve it.

PART 2

In this part, the author highlights the importance of accepting oneself. It enlightened me about the great impact one could have if he/she would only believe in himself/herself. Just by accepting our own weaknesses, our own imperfections and the things that we are good at—the aura it gives to a person will always be powerful. Knowing the presence of external voices, we should not let it silence our own because at the end of the day—our inner voice matters.

PART 3

In this part, the author highlights the aspects of navigating life's uncertainties. I learned that in life, we'll get to a point where everything would feel so blurry and what we can only do is just to trust the process and believe that there's so much goodness that's waiting to unfold in the future. Moreover, in this chapter, it dawned on me that I should teach myself to not dwell so much on my problems. Instead, I should act and find the real solution to it. Lastly, I have come to realized that it's also a good idea if we learn to not suppress our emotions. Suppressing never helps, it just makes you feel worse. So be that someone who never holds back.

PART 4

In this part, the author gives emphasis on the importance of getting along with one another. It taught me a lesson of being nice to the people I meet in my lifetime. More importantly, with the intention of showing kindness to everyone—one should not forget to establish healthy boundaries. The same goes of not changing oneself just to fit in the society's standard.

PART 5

In this chapter, the author pinpoints the idea of bettering oneself. It taught me a lesson that in life, I need to fight for what I deserve and do less in criticizing my own self if I make mistakes. It musters up my courage that as long as I'm alive, I have to never stop exploring things that make me happy.

PART 6

In this part, the author gives significance on championing happiness and how to live a meaningful life. It taught me a lesson particularly on not being afraid of taking risks, being content with my own life and just exist the way I wanted to be.

MY REVIEW AND RATING
Overall, I would give a big 5 star to this book. As an adult who's trying to navigate my life, this book truly helped me through its comforting words. From the aspect of kindness, respect, self-love, overcoming anxiety and living a meaningful life—this book has it all. You guys can also have your copy of this book.
