Sipnosis.
Cuando el lujoso Tren Azul llega a Niza, un guardia intenta despertar a Ruth Kettering para anunciarle su parada. Pero ella no despertará nunca más, ya que un disparo de gran calibre la ha matado, desfigurando sus rasgos hasta volverla casi irreconocible. Además, sus valiosísimos rubíes han desaparecido. El principal sospechoso del crimen es el arruinado marido de la dama, Derek. Pero Poirot no está convencido, y decide hacer una reconstrucción de ese día hasta llegar a la clave del asesinato...
Synopsis.
When the luxurious Blue Train arrives in Nice, a guard tries to wake Ruth Kettering to announce her stop. But she will never wake up again, for a high-caliber gunshot has killed her, disfiguring her features until she is almost unrecognizable. In addition, her priceless rubies are missing. The prime suspect in the crime is the lady's ruined husband, Derek. But Poirot is not convinced, and decides to make a reconstruction of that day until he finds the key to the murder...
Trama.
El libro empieza en París, cuando un millonario americano llamado Rufus Van Aldin compra un collar adornado con un rubí llamado “Corazón de Fuego”, un artículo muy perseguido por ladrones de joyas, por lo que no es de extrañar que hayan intentado robárselo en el trayecto, afortunadamente, Mr.Van Aldin logra ahuyentar a los ladrones lanzando unos tiros al aire.
Muchas personas desean tener en sus manos esta brillante joya, sin embargo Mr. Van Aldin sabe a quién se la dará: a nada más y nada menos que a Ruth Kettering, su única y preciada hija.
Ruth y su doncella viajan unas semanas a Niza en un lujoso tren conocido como el Tren Azul; antes de partir, su padre le previene que guarde el collar en la caja fuerte, pues corre el riesgo que los roben y la maten.
Quien diría que ese comentario a manera de juego sería un presagio de muerte…
Plot.
The book begins in Paris, when an American millionaire named Rufus Van Aldin buys a necklace adorned with a ruby called "Heart of Fire", an item much pursued by jewel thieves, so it is not surprising that they have tried to steal it on the way, fortunately, Mr.Van Aldin manages to scare away the thieves by throwing a few shots in the air.
Many people wish to get their hands on this brilliant jewel, but Mr. Van Aldin knows who he will give it to: none other than Ruth Kettering, his only and precious daughter.
Ruth and her maid travel a few weeks to Nice in a luxurious train known as the Blue Train; before leaving, her father warns her to keep the necklace in the safe, as she runs the risk of being robbed and killed.
Who would have thought that such a playful comment would be a harbinger of death...
Poco tiempo después de haberse detenido el tren en la última estación es encontrada Ruth Kettering muerta y con el rostro desfigurado. Es un suceso trágico que exige que todos los que tuvieron alguna relación con ella antes y durante el viaje declaren sus pasos. Entre ellos, conoceremos a Katherine Grey, una pasajera vecina de cabina que aparentemente fue la última persona con la que se vio a Mrs. Kettering, y quien muestra todo su apoyo para resolver el crimen.
Hablemos un poco de Ruth.
Ruth es una muchacha relativamente joven, está casada con Dereck Kettering, un hombre que está casi en la quiebra pero que tiene estatus social; es infeliz en su matrimonio, sabe que su esposo no la quiere y nunca la trató con amor; muchos años antes de su casamiento estuvo enamorada de Armand, también conocido como Conde de la Roche, y con quien ahora tiene un amorío.
Todo apunta que el asesino es Dereck Kettering, el marido de Ruth. Las razones por las que pudo haber matado a su esposa es por el dinero que heredaría, con ello tendría suficiente para vivir tranquilamente con su amante, quien lo dejaría si de una u otra forma no obtenía pronto una buena suma de dinero.
Shortly after the train stops at the last station, Ruth Kettering is found dead and her face disfigured. It is a tragic event that demands that all those who had any relationship with her before and during the trip declare their steps. Among them, we will meet Katherine Grey, a neighboring cabin passenger who apparently was the last person Mrs. Kettering was seen with, and who shows all her support to solve the crime.
Let's talk a little about Ruth.
Ruth is a relatively young girl, she is married to Dereck Kettering, a man who is almost bankrupt but has social status; she is unhappy in her marriage, she knows that her husband does not love her and never treated her with love; many years before her marriage she was in love with Armand, also known as Count de la Roche, and with whom she is now having an affair.
Everything points to Dereck Kettering, Ruth's husband, as the murderer. The reasons why he may have killed his wife is because of the money he would inherit, with it he would have enough to live quietly with his lover, who would leave him if in one way or another he did not get a good sum of money soon.
Hércules Poirot casualmente viaja en el tren y no podía evitar brindar sus habilidades de detective para resolver este crimen, hay algunos cabos que no son fáciles de atar y ciertas declaraciones que no lo convencen, por lo que se vale de todo para encajar las piezas de este terrible suceso.

Mi opinión.
Este es el segundo libro que leo de esta autora y no me ha defraudado del todo. Agatha Christie tiene una forma especial de relatar sus historias que me gusta. Aunque es una historia de misterio, no es un libro muy denso, en realidad es una lectura ligera, rápida y entretenida.
Debo decir que los primeros capítulos me parecieron un poco aburridos, casi dejo el libro de lado si no fue hasta que entendí que era una especie de introducción a la vida de los personajes. La autora relata un poco de sus ocupaciones y de su personalidad para entrar en contexto con lo que sucederá más adelante.
My opinion.
This is the second book I've read by this author and it didn't disappoint me at all. Agatha Christie has a special way of telling her stories that I like. Although it is a mystery story, it is not a very dense book, it is actually a light, fast and entertaining read.
I must say that I found the first few chapters a bit boring, I almost put the book aside if it wasn't until I understood that it was a sort of introduction to the characters' lives. The author tells a little of their occupations and their personalities to get in context with what will happen later on.
Una vez llegado el nudo de la historia todo se volvió más interesante, los cabos se iban atando poco a poco, pero también aparecían algunos personajes nuevos que atrasaban el descubrir al verdadero asesino. Yo ya no confiaba en nadie, cualquiera podía ser el culpable y yo moría por saber quién era, tanto así que formulaba algunas hipótesis y teorías antes de ir a dormir. XD
Los últimos capítulos me sorprendieron enormemente, no me esperaba descubrir quién fue el asesino, y eso es lo que más me gusta de las historias de misterio: no saber quién es quién, si puedo o no confiar en algún personaje, o estar preparada para los giros que puede dar la historia…
Once I got to the crux of the story everything became more interesting, the loose ends were being tied up little by little, but also some new characters appeared that delayed the discovery of the real murderer. I no longer trusted anyone, anyone could be the culprit and I was dying to know who it was, so much so that I formulated some hypotheses and theories before going to sleep. XD
The last chapters surprised me enormously, I didn't expect to find out who the murderer was, and that's what I like most about mystery stories: not knowing who is who, whether or not I can trust any character, or be prepared for the twists the story can take...
Aunque hubieron algunos detalles que sentí que pudieron haber sido más elaborados o mejor pensados para el libro (no diré cuáles, pues entonces estaría haciendo spoiler :P), en general disfruté la lectura, terminé el libro en unos cinco días, pues lo leía en pequeños ratos en los que quería despejarme.
Lo recomiendo totalmente, especialmente a personas que prefieren lecturas cortas o incluso aquellos que inician en el género misterio, seguro lo disfrutarán.
Although there were some details that I felt could have been more elaborate or better thought out for the book (I won't say which ones, because then I would be making spoilers :P), overall I enjoyed the reading, I finished the book in about five days, because I read it in small moments when I wanted to clear my mind.
I totally recommend it, especially to people who prefer short reads or even those who are new to the mystery genre, you will enjoy it for sure.

STOPAunque soy más fanático de Conan Doyle pues me fascina Sherlock Holmes como personaje, es innegable que Agatha es una maestra del genero de detectives y misterio. Mi favorito es "La muerte visita al dentista" junto con "Cinco cerditos" y "Asesinato en el Orient Express", quizás puedas echarles un vistazo luego, al igual que yo haré con este dado que tu reseña me ha gustado mucho y me he animado a ponerlo en mi lista de lectura.
