Some time ago I told you about a series of thriller books by my beloved Charlotte link, today I'm talking about the second book in the series dedicated to Inspector Kate Linville and her colleague Caleb Hale. The books can be read in chronological order but they can also be enjoyed separately, I started with the fourth! Anyway, in this book the inspector returns to her town to get rid of a house that reminds her of her painful past, she swears not to get involved in local cases but one touches her closely. Some girls begin to disappear especially the daughter of the hoteliers who host the inspector. But the disappearances date back much earlier, they begin with the young Hannah and then involve other girls. Inspector Caleb Hale begins to investigate the latest disappearance who reappears as if by a miracle alive but with memory lapses, she seems not to know who kidnapped her. Meanwhile, another young woman who no one cares about and with a violent family has disappeared... The plot is multi-voiced, that of the girls kidnapped both in the past and in the present, strong, scared, each with a story behind it, that of the inspector and her personal and investigative events, of the hotelier with her suffering for her daughter and for life and that of the kidnapper with his obsession and cruelty. A truly gripping book that will keep you tense until the end which is certainly not banal. Each character and situation is well characterized and the book never has boring moments. A gripping investigation with twists, crudeness, emotions and suspense. A great thriller book like all the others by her!

Hace un tiempo os hablé de una saga de libros de suspense de mi querida Charlotte Link, hoy os hablo del segundo libro de la saga dedicado a la inspectora Kate Linville y su colega Caleb Hale. Los libros se pueden leer en orden cronológico pero también se pueden disfrutar por separado, ¡piensa que comencé desde el cuarto! Sin embargo en este libro la inspectora regresa a su pueblo para deshacerse de una casa que le recuerda su doloroso pasado, jura no involucrarse en casos locales pero uno la toca de cerca. Algunas chicas empiezan a desaparecer, especialmente la hija de los hoteleros que acogen al inspector. Pero las desapariciones se remontan a mucho antes, comenzando con la joven Hannah y luego involucrando a otras niñas. El inspector Caleb Hale comienza a investigar la última desaparición que milagrosamente reaparece con vida pero con lapsos de memoria, no parece saber quién la secuestró. Mientras tanto, otra joven que no le importa a nadie y con una familia violenta ha desaparecido... La trama tiene varias voces, la de las chicas secuestradas tanto en el pasado como en el presente, fuertes, asustadas, cada una con una historia detrás, la de la inspectora y sus historias personales y de investigación, la del hotelero con su sufrimiento por su hija y por la vida y la del secuestrador con su obsesión y crueldad. Un libro realmente apasionante que te mantendrá tenso hasta el final, lo que ciertamente no es trivial. Cada personaje y situación está bien caracterizado y el libro nunca tiene un momento aburrido. Una investigación apasionante con giros, crudeza, emociones y suspenso. ¡Un excelente libro de suspense como todos los demás!

It's great when a book grabs you like that, when you can't tear yourself away from it for a minute because the book is pure suspense.
