Good afternoon to you all Paha this time I want to talk about the book that started it all metro book 2033.

I want to touch on certain points and talk about the book as a whole, the first thing I would like to say is that many especially Stalker fans think that the metro book was written based on the game, but this is a misconception that these are Stalker books. written after the release of the game. In the subway, on the contrary, at first there was a book, and only then the game adaptation of this book is precisely this fact that makes the universe of the subway and the game more elaborate, because the plot of the game was not created from scratch, it was built on a ready-made plot that was simply adapted for the game and you can’t avoid it comparison of game and book.

There is one story which has certain plot points, and they are present both in the book and in the game, but the paths to these points are completely different if the game has a lot of action and the main character Artem often gets into a shootout and kills people, then in the book throughout the story, he kills only one person, but it's not that an accident, it was just a fit of anger. Unlike the game, in the book Artyom is a really inexperienced young man who has an overwhelming mission to go through all the subways in order to save his native VDNKh station. You feel his weakness, his impotence, lack of experience and preparation, but you feel tremendous willpower, he is trying to save his station from the invasion of new mysterious black mutants that can influence the human subconscious, and Artyom's storyline in the books is much longer and more interesting, but not only in Artyom, things and in the characters that surround him, for example, in the book there is a grandfather with a child who has down syndrome and Artyom helps them get to their destination, but when a Reich officer kills a down boy, in fact, he is what he is and Artyom can’t stand it and kills this officer. Artyom's first companion in the Bourbon book is also shown in a completely different way, he was a muddy type in the game, but in the book it turns out that at the end of their joint passage through the tunnel, he would just quietly kill Artyom and go on and their journey through the tunnel was different in in the game they came to the surface in the book they only went underground. In the game and in the book it is shown the same way, but I was surprised that his fate is revealed in the next book, but I will write about this separately.

And the most interesting character in my opinion from the book, and from the game, too, is a man named Khan in the book Khan is revealed much deeper in the game, he is mysterious, but is simpler than his version from the book. Khan is sure that he is the last descendant of Genghis Khan, that he can see the future and much more, such a self-proclaimed magician of the world.

Interestingly, for example, Artyom was captured, losing in the rat race, gave himself into slavery for a year, and then escaped a couple of days later. In general, both the game and the book are two very interesting, but still different plots, and it is important to remember that there was a book first, because the game is just an adaptation, and the book is a whole Post-apocalyptic world in which there are a lot of secrets and mysteries. But at the same time, the game makes a huge number of references to the book, and indeed the plot of each game in the series has always been developed with the author of the Metro 2033 universe, Dmitry Glukhovsky. That is why the plot of the first books and the first game is in many ways similar, and if they diverge here only in those places where it is permissible and not by willpower on the main meaning of the story, and all subsequent games and books alternate their events one after another, intersecting at the level of references and recollection of individual characters, thereby building one solid plot.

Well, that's all for me. And next week I will review the Metro 2034 book.

Sort:

Wow. This is kinda interesting. I enjoy futuristic books like this.

It's also new territory for me to actually see books that were adapted to video games. Would be something worth checking out.
