A Court of Thorns and Roses - Spoiler Free Book Review

a court of thorns and roses.jfif

I decided to start reading the ACOTAR series by Sarah J. Maas and join the hype train. I am so glad that I did that because it is so much fun. TikTok has not failed me. I know that a lot of people dislike the first book, but I loved it. Also, this book is a beauty and the beast retelling, and as it is one of my favorite Disney movies I was totally on broad with this. But retelling doesn't mean that it is very similar, just a few elements. Which again, I loved.

The book follows Feyre, a nineteen year old girl who lives in poverty. Every day she goes into the dangerous woods to hunt to try and bring food for her two older sisters and crippled father. One day on the hunt she sees a wolf and kills it. The next day a giant creature comes to demand retribution for the death. Feyre must come to live with him in his home which in the beautiful faerie land, Prythian or die. Here comes the beauty and the beast vibes.

Feyre has a fire spirit and at first she both hates and fear Tamlin, her capture. But you already know this story. The main surprise in that there is a blight in the land of Prythian. All of the faerie are in great danger from it. Will Feyre be the one to save the land and her new allies from this dangerous unknown sickness that has come over this land?

I loved this book, but I am warning you, the first half of this book is mainly world building. You get to know the characters, this world, the new strange dangers, the rules of this land. It might feel a bit tedious, but make no mistake, this is not just a love story. The moment the book crosses a certain point, the book becomes action packed. So many interesting things happen and new characters are introduced and there is a lot and a lot of fun.

And then you go into the next book. This book sort of has a close ending, but you want to continue this journey with Feyre so like me you'll probably automatically continue to the next book. Also, I can't wait to know why everyone on TikTok hate the main male character of this book.

Aha! You've been bitten by the ACOTAR bug! It's so worth it.

You'll understand why the hate for Tamlin once you get into the next book (and the next, and the next). I loved this series! Then I read SJM's Throne of Glass series and that changed my world as far as what I love to read and the kind of stories I write.

I hope you enjoy A Court of Mist and Fury, which is the next book. I loved that one, but ACOWAR was probably my favorite of them all. 💖

Yes, I've got it bad. ACOTAR is now my entire personality.
