The author for the TikTok sensation The Love Hypothesis is back and unlike her previous books, her current book is a romantasy. A strange romantasy. It has some good parts and it has some not great parts. I finished it really fast, but I was left with a satisfied and yet odd feeling.
Misery Lark is the daughter of a Vampyre leader and she must marry the Alpha of the nearest werewolf pack, Lowe Moreland in order to ensure a peaceful coexistence between the species. However, Misery has her own reasons to agree to this marriage.
There is a lot not to like in this book, the main reason for me is the terrible world building. A good fantasy book needs good world building and this book doesn't have it. As a result the city in which this book takes place feels like the entire world, even though the rest of the world is discussed in this book. The relationship between the species also feels unclear. The next unlikable thing is the characters. I'm sorry, I didn't really like any of them, or the relationships between them. The love story part of the book is also really bad in my opinion. I just didn't feel any connection between the characters and their relationships were odd to say the least.
The best part of the book is the mystery part. Misery choose to marry Lowe for a reason. To save a loved one. But the story there and everything revolving it is so much more interesting than anything else in the book. It is clearly the strongest part of the book.
And like you can expect from an Ali Hazelwood book, this book is written in a way that will make you finish this book in two days tops. The writing is flowing, light, and the book just carries itself forward without a hitch. I couldn't put it down even though I was on vacation and finished it in no time.
It's not a good book by any means and Ali Hazelwood has better books, but it is still a very enjoyable one, even though it is cringe worthy occasionally.

It seems to me that you are right. Sometimes books in this genre, while they can be very entertaining, have some flaws in terms of world building. Thank you so much for sharing your very detailed perspective. Even though I haven't read this particular book, you've given me a very good idea of what to expect. I am curious. 👍
