It was great, yeah. Some really neat ideas in it. Based on @stayoutoftherz's suggestion I snagged the second book as well and I'm about half way through now, and it's been even better. If you have a few long flights, consider snagging Fall of Hyperion too, so you can get some plot threads closed that the first one doesn't tie off. It's been great so far.
