Happy New year hive folks. I think I've said that before, lol but still; happy New year again. I hope we all crush our goals for the year. Speaking of goals, one of mine for 2025 is to read a minimum of 12 books. That averages one book a month. I'm talking, buying a physical book, not and not an electronic copy. That averages one book per month. I'm pretty sure I will surpass that, but we'll see. I visited my family for new year's day, and as I was returning I was looking out for the book vendor I usually see by the road side. When I saw him and all the books he'd laid up, I was full of joy. I reckon the folks passing by would have wondered what made me so excited about sighting books. I saw quite a number of good options and I genuinely didn't know which one to go with. At first I took the book Surrounded by Idiots by Thomas Erikson but I wasn't too stoked after reading the synopsis then, David Robson's The intelligence Trap caught my eye because I sort of resonate with that. Have you ever wondered, Why do intelligent people sometimes make poor decisions? I have a good feeling the book offers an answer to this questions and more.

Why This book?

One of the reasons I chose this book was that it felt really relatable. I like to took of myself as a smart guy, even though I make looooots of dumb decisions. While writing this now I remembered one of the dumbest thing I've ever done recently and it made me realize, I might think I know stuff but I can be really poor with judging situations and making decisions. It turns out, intelligence and being "smart" isn't enough. Hence, this book, I reckon would help shed more light.

What do I expect?

I stood at the vendor for a couple minutes scrolling through reviews of other readers and it was mixed. A number of people loved the simple, easy to understand tips while some found the strategies way too ordinary and only fitting for a short article. There's also the exploration of cognitive biases, decision making traps and the gap between intelligence and wisdom.

What I hope to learn

If there's anything I look forward to the most, it's that I get to experience lot of epiphanies and get called out for my BS, lol. Themes like overconfidence, etc. are what I'm hoping would get some attention as it is one of the reasons most people can fall into a mental pitfall.

Conclusion

I really can't wait for start reading the book. I'm currently trying to finish The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. You might say, then this is not my first book for the year, lol, but I started reading it last year so this is technically the first of 2025. Look out for my follow up post sharing my thoughts. Thank you for reading. Till next time. Cheers.

Sounds very interesting, especially since we've all been in situations where, despite being smart, we made questionable decisions. Here's to a 2025 full of good reads! 📚✨

Right
Thanks bro
Going to be a good year for sure 🔥

I agree that intelligence and being intelligent are not enough in this world, where nowadays the best known or the one with the best networks stands out.

It is something that ironically many of us do not understand. I liked the epiphanies' thing, it's something that is incredibly consistent with my tastes.

Absolutely
It's such a promising book and I can't wait.
