WUTHERING HEIGHTS: BOOK REVIEW

⬇️

Hello everyone. Recently, my friend asked me to lend him any interesting books that I owned. While searching through my library, my eyes fell upon one of my most interesting reads of all time: Wuthering Heights by Emily Bront. I gave it to him.

Well, he didn't find it interesting and returned the book a day later. He said the book is Gothi.

The book is one that I found both interesting and disturbing at the same time. I loved the way the author developed the characters. One character that particularly fascinates me is Mr. Heathcliff. His vengeful spirit shouldn't be undermined. Let's review the

A new tenant at Thrushcross Grange, Mr. Lockwood, had paid a visit to his landlord, Heathcliff, at his farmhouse, also known as the weaving heights. There he meets Cathy Linton, Joseph the servant, and Hareton, an uneducated young man. Everyone was inhospitable towards me.

It snowed in the night, and he was forced to spend the night at wuthering heights. He spent the night in a room that belonged to the late Catherine Earnshaw. He read the diary of the late Catherine and had a nightmare. In the nightmare, Catherine begged to be allowed in through the window. Lockwood woke up with a loud scream, thereby making Heathcliff disturbed. Heathcliff also queried Nelly, the housekeeper, asking why she put him in that particular room.

Lockwood returned to his place the next day and fell ill. There, Nelly helped to nurse him and told him the story of the weaving height.

The story started with Mr. Earnshaw, the owner of Wuthering Heights, having two children, Hindley and Catherine, and one adopted son named Heathclif.
Hindley hated Heathcliff, whereas his father and Catherine were so fond of Heathcliff. Mr. Earnshaw sent Hindley to college, and during his absence, Catherine bonded with Heathcliff.

After Earnshaw's death, Hindley returned with a wife and forced Heathcliff to work like a servant. Hindley's wife died after giving birth to a boy named Hareto.

Meanwhile, Catherine got attracted to a noble man called Edgar; she was fascinated by his wealth and beauty. Heathcliff left home one night.

Catherine got married to Edgar in the absence of Heathcliff. Heathcliff returned home after a year. He was extremely rich and had a wild attitude.

Catherine was excited to see Heathcliff despite her husband's condemnation. Heathcliff moved into Wuthering Heights with Hindley. Hindley approved of his moving in because he had started to gamble and had lost all his wealth.

Soon, the crush between Isabella, Edgar's sister, and Heathcliff was revealed. Despite all warnings, Isabella chose to trudge forward with the crush, thereby causing a conflict between Edgar and Heathclif.

Meanwhile, Catherine fell sick after refusing to eat for a while. Then Isabella eloped with Heathclif.

Heathcliff treated Isabella in a horrible way, which caused her to reflect on her decisions. After being sick for two months, Catherine died after giving birth to a baby girl called Cath.

Isabella heard of the death of Catherine and escaped from Wuthering Heights; she left to live somewhere in London, where she gave birth to Heathcliff's son Linto.

Hindley died. By paying all of Hindley's debt, Heathcliff became the owner of Wuthering Heights. He made Hareton a servant, just like Hindley had done to him.

The book is a very interesting one. The love that existed between Heathcliff and Catherine should be studied. Even at Death's bed, Catherine still confessed her love for Heathcliffe.

The dominant themes in this book are love, passion, family, and most importantly, vengeance. I loved the way Emily Bronte made sure that all characters had their good and bad sides; they were all a combination of good and evil, each having their own weakness.

I particularly loved that the main character is villainous and that the whole atmosphere is gloomy. The infusion of romantic elements was not bad at all.
