I thought of finding a way of getting a smaller version ( A5 instead of A4 ) of my book, The Life of Hypersensitivosaurus, printed, after having only printed 10 copies, as a test, back on February the 22nd ( 22-02-2022 ).
For a flashback to that historical moment, back in February, feel free to check out I did it - Finished my First Book on the second day of the week of the second month of 2022... and/ or What's in the Box? My First Book
And then I discovered, once again, that this would be way more complicated than expected, I don't even feel like getting into it ( and explaining it to you ). Not just that, it also confronted me, not for the first time, with its imperfections. And if you have been following me for a while, you know that I don't see perfectionism as a helpful trait, in fact it has sabotaged me, many times in my life.
Thus, for the umptieth time, I asked myself:
Do I really need to do this?
In other words:
Is it really necessary to make an improved version with a nicer layout, no typos, a smaller font or even with different illustrations and so on and so forth?
Then answer was: NO. It's not necessary.
Sometimes it's time to move on and accept an old project or whatever situation the way it is/ was, good enough for that moment in time and not in need for improvement.
I felt that it was time, once again, to focus more on my second book ( that was once - over a year a year and a half ago - going to be my first book ). I am talking about the book that you see depicted on the screenshot above this post: Hypersensitivosaurus and Cold Turkey.
And then, after making that decision, I managed to focus, once again, on fine tuning that book ( without being too much of a perfectionist ). I aim to find a way to finish it pretty soon, without putting pressure on myself. A way to only work on it, when I am really feeling it, not forcing it, no pressure, and with enough awareness to not get stuck in details ( not easy, if you know about the speed of my brain and how hyperactive it is ).
Let's see if I can find the hyperfocus button a little more often, as I managed to do back in February.
I try to navigate my creative process the way I navigate life, with a lot of thinking but at least as much guided by my intuition/ gut feeling.
Now I think of it, this is pretty much the way I approached life - and creativity - as a kid. This is something we usually lose when we grow older, as it's 'beaten' out of us by the pressure of society and its focus on productivity and making money. We have to conform, follow the rules, etc.
I want to go back to the joyful way of creating from the past, I want to feel like a kid again, and I think this can go hand in hand with making money. The latter is a bonus though, a logical effect of enjoying the process.
TO BE CONVINUED...
P.S. What does your creative process look like? Do you feel it needs to change? Can you even make sense of it, or is it as intuitive as mine? I love to hear your story.
P.P.S. If you haven't done so already, you might want to get your hands on a digital version of my (im)perfect first book: Hypersensitivosaurus and Cold Turkey.
More on that in Time to share the Perfectly Imperfect digital version of my first book with you and Don't Forget to get your Hands on my Book. You can get it for free but I welcome and appreciate donations, preferably in Hive or HBD.
I also appreciate berries. If you're active on Hive, you can gift them to me by clicking on the following fruity looking logo:
Cheers to an A5, that's a more handheld size. Any large backs I had as a kid, I always made my parents read it to me because I always felt I couldn't hold the book far away enough from myself with little kid arms. I often took smaller books with me all over the house and on road trips, so I think this is a good move. Cheers knappe man.
That's helpful feedback, didn't think about it in that way ( it being easier to hold for a kid ).
The personal story about you as a Li'l Justin is a bonus and visualizing it brings a :<) to my face,
Cheers buddy!
I also Miss the Joy I feel as a kid. Here is a 100% vote for you 😉
You get it. I aim to bring back some joy into the world with my stories though, as humor is one of my main ingredients ;^)
Yeah, sometimes you have to draw the lines over the past projects and look to the future ones. You feel all the better for it!
