Hello readers...
This is one of the stories from the journey of exploring genres other than self-improvement and romance. This may still be a fiction genre, but this novel has high complexity. Fiction inspired by a true story. It is not entirely a true story, but this novel can be used as a clue about what happened to this country at that time. I, who was blind about those times, by reading this book learned that many difficult things were experienced by my country at that time. This opens up another perspective.
This is my first novel with the historical fiction genre, Namaku Alam (My Name is Alam).
The novel Namaku Alam was written by Leila S Chudori and this is the first work of hers that I read. I enjoy reading works from (so-called) accredited authors because by reading their works, I might be able to add or improve my writing skills. Reading the works of A-class authors like Leila S Chudori is an honor for me. Not only because her novels are mega bestsellers, but the way she writes is certainly the center of my attention to her works. Thank you to Mba Titis who introduced this author and lent me this book.
and now Let's talk about this book...
This story is set in 1965 where it is told from POV 1: Alam, where he tells his life story. He who has the ability of photographic memory grew up as the youngest of three siblings. His two sisters are Yu Kenanga and Yu Bulan. Also, a mother who has become a single parent since her father was arrested by someone who claimed to be threatened by the existence of Alam's father who was a journalist. Alam and his family often get taunts about the past, but Alam doesn't seem to be bothered. He continues to live, until finally the story of his past is revealed one by one. Together with Bimo, Alam's story is really interesting to follow.
is it a little huh?! That's because I don't want major spoilers. I just want to share my perspective when reading this book
My impression is still the same from the beginning of reading until finishing the last page. Even this book seems to open my eyes to the stories that happened in the times long before I was born. This book seems to answer all my questions so far, what really happened at that time that people still continue to make the issue of that day one of the dark issues of this country. Yup, even though it is called fiction, this book has achieved its goal.
I like Leila's storytelling style, where the point of view used is a man's point of view. Even though the person writing is a woman, Alam's POV does not lack masculinity at all. Instead of liking Alam's character, I like Yu Kenangan's character who has a close personality to his first child, also Alam's best friend, Bimo. Bimo's life story is no less exciting and intriguing. And another interesting thing about this book is that Alam and Bimo's new school, which is inhabited by smart children, is a fictional school that feels real. It would be very interesting to be at that school.
My Name is Alam is a spin-off from Leila's previous novel, Pulang. Although this is a Spin Off, reading this novel before the previous one still doesn't make you miss out on much. In fact, this book then brought me to the story of Alam as an adult which is told to have a more complex story.
I rated Namaku Alam with 5 stars from five stars: Perfect and Superb!
Thanks in advance guys, to read my blog and hope you like my post!

Hi, Halo, Annyeong! Welcome to my galaxy.
I have so much imagination in my head. Something that I can't achieve as a human and as a girl. So writing is very challenging. Since Junior High School, I have written whatever I want to write. Without skill, I just write what I want to read. Now I have 12th published novels and all of those are romance.
Yeah, I proudly say that I am a passionate author, traveler wannabe, and blogger.
Thanks for the great summary you posted x
Hello there! I love it when authors tell their stories from the first-person perspective. Well, the first person and third person omniscient are my favorites.
It is nice that you decided to read genres other than Romance and self-improvement (I'm guessing these are your favorites.) Thanks for not giving us spoilers.
It is hard to come by a 5 out of 5 review.
Thanks for sharing.
