Novelet Review - Let It Snow by John Green, Lauren Myracle, Maureen Johnson

Hello everyone...

I have never read John Green's works because I have not enjoyed reading translated novels that's why I have not read many works by foreign authors. I once tried to read one of John Green's quite famous works but I eventually did not finish it. However, recently my friend said that he had John Green's novels and he was selling them cheaply. It could also be called Pre-loved or second hand. Because now I have decided to read any genre, especially romance for the reference of the novel I am working on, I bought those novels.

Let It Snow is a novelette written by three authors, namely John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Laureen Myracle.

The Jubilee Express
Maureen Johnson

This is the first interesting part, that there is a girl named Jubilee whose life changed 180 degrees overnight.

Jubilee thought that on Christmas Eve she would celebrate it with Noah (her lover) and his parents in a solemn family dinner. She had also prepared a gift for Noah, but because he was busy, her lover could not be contacted. They would meet on Christmas Eve and Jubilee believed that her lover would come. However, bad news came from her neighbor who was also a lawyer for her parents. Jubilee's parents were very fond of Flobie Santa Village, a miniature city that was believed to be a long-term investment. Jubilee's parents were caught in a tragedy and had to be in prison. Jubilee was finally sent to Florida, but the journey to her grandparents' house was not smooth. The train she was on had an accident, hitting a snowdrift that required all passengers to wait until help arrived.

During that crisis, Jubilee met Stuart who finally offered to help her stay warm. Jubilee finally agreed to stay at Stuart's house. She met Stuart's friendly mother, and his very smart sister, Rachel. In that house, Jubilee and Stuart became closer and closer. Overnight, Stuart was able to convince Jubilee that her lover, Noah, wanted to break up with her, just like Chloe did to him.

Overnight, Jubilee and Noah's romance ended and you will know how this story ends.

This is an interesting opening story. In the first chapter, I immediately enjoyed reading this first-person perspective story. I enjoyed every dialogue that was not excessive, and the story was not long-winded. Maybe because this is a collection of novelettes, so there will be no scenes that are made unimportant. Of course, I liked the sweet ending.

A Cheertastis Christmas Miracle
John Green

This story written by John Green tells the story of a teenagers' gang who gather in one house on Christmas Eve. Some hours before Christmas eve they have to go to one place to celebrate that night with their member and then get stuck on a snowy road. In an effort to find a smooth path to the Waffle House, they finally get involved in an emotional conversation. Especially for The Duke and Tobin. Together with JP, they go through many obstacles to the Waffle House for their best friend who is also trapped there with the Cheerleaders, Keun. Who would have thought, that the closer the distance to the Waffle House, the closer their relationship is, even more than best friends.

This story by John Green is still related to the previous story. They are connected by the Snow disaster and Waffle House. Oh yeah, the Cheerleaders too. However, the story reads very long-winded. There aren't many important things except for a way to buy time so that the target words are met, it seems. However, I can still enjoy the ending which is also sweet. So I don't want to stop myself from finishing it.

The Patron Saint of Pigs
lauren Myracle

Did you remember about Jeb in the story of Jubilee Express, or a man who just woke up in the Waffle House? Yes, He is him! This story is Jeb’s part but from his girlfriend's Point of View. This story is told by Addie, talking about how they met and finally got closer till now, when Jeb like dissapear and Addie worried. Then come several friends of Addie, involved in long coversation about Addie’s feelings and another man then in the end, Jeb’s coming with his reason why being disappeared.

First, this part has a story that is a bit confusing and convoluted. There are too many characters that make it difficult for me to understand the main story (yeah maybe this is one of my weaknesses in reading) which ultimately makes this story very boring. Addie is a very long-winded and confusing character. As for Jeb, it's a shame that his portion is only a little.

Overall, from the 3 stories, I love the story of Jubilee who has a story that is not long-winded and has few characters so that it is not distracted. I enjoyed this story of Maureen Johnson, while for the other two authors, it was not bad, but I have not found that the romance of these two authors can be enjoyed. And about John Green, I still have some of his other books so let's see, will the story in the other books be the same as the story in this book?

Hi, Halo, Annyeong! Welcome to my galaxy.

I have so much imagination in my head. Something that I can't achieve as a human and as a girl. So writing is very challenging. Since Junior High School, I have written whatever I want to write. Without skill, I just write what I want to read. Now I have 12th published novels and all of them are romance.
Yeah, I proudly say that I am a passionate author, traveler wannabe, and blogger.

Jubilee's story sounds especially poignant, and I find it to be the most solid of the three. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Also me @jessuses1381 I like the Jubilee story because still there is interesting.
