This novel tells of a truly dark period in history.
Germany, 1944. Hannah, a beautiful and naive eighteen-year-old, volunteers to work in a home for evacuated children. But Dr. Heinkel, a staunch Nazi, decrees that Hannah must serve her country differently.
Hannah only realizes what is expected of her when it is too late.
England, 2001. Elizabeth has always suspected that her mother was hiding a secret dating back to her time as a young woman in Nazi Germany. But her mother, unfortunately, is suffering from dementia, and cannot give her the clarifications she would like. But she does not give up and wants to seek the truth at all costs.
Despite being a novel, this book highlights the cruelty and madness of mankind, and the brutal acts carried out by the Nazis in the name of racial purity, and is therefore inspired by true events.
I highly recommend it so you don't forget.
