Welcome Hive readers, and a special hello to Hive Book Club since this is my first post in this community. I want to bring you the books I read this 2024, also an application that I use to organize myself with all the books I have, it can be used as a notepad, for tasks, I emphasize that it is not a promotion, I simply want to tell you that I use it and it works for me in this case, since I like to keep track of when I read the book.
The first book I read in 2024, and it was difficult because Friedrich Nietzsche is very difficult. I had a lot of time, days where I repeated the paragraphs because I didn't understand, but a psychologist told me and it stayed in my head, that it is better to read and not understand, than not to read, little by little the threads are woven together. From the perspective of ethics and morals, "Beyond Good and Evil" is a profound book, where everything normative is dismantled, if you like the philosophy of morals I recommend it. It takes up topics that are clearly impossible to close in a society, where "Morality has aesthetic criteria" and much more when the world is capitalist.
The second and third books I read were "The Plague" and "The Stranger" by Albert Camus, an author I already knew, but I was not lucky enough to read him. I am not usually a big fan of novels or stories, I am more into delving into the mind of the author and exploring his perspective, but Camus has that which makes him one of the literary geniuses. Both "The Plague" and "The Stranger" are fantastic stories that delve into the depths of Being, living through some difficult themes to navigate (and much more so in his time, the 50s/60s). Another fascinating point for the previous topic, the morality and ethics of what we are capable of.
The fourth book is by Slavoj ZiZek, "Hypocrisy." Since I saw videos of this Slovenian philosopher, psychoanalyst and cultural critic, I was fascinated by the way he expresses himself, abrupt and complex, even more so because he is psychoanalytical, which makes him perhaps more striking for me. In this book, among so much criticism, there is a central point, which says that the Kinder Egg cannot be sold in the United States, he calls it "A very astonishing commodity." His surprise lies in the fact that it is an excessive object, the cause of your desire is here materialized in the appearance of an object, a plastic toy that "fills" the void of the chocolate egg... and with this, I invite you from my soul to get to know this author, much criticized by his colleagues, but that does not stop you from getting to know him and giving your own opinion.
Oedipus Rex, by Sophocles, the fifth book of 2024. I got it from my mother, I traveled to Cañuelas and she had it there, I knew the story superficially, but I had never read it, so I asked her for it, here was the beginning of the creation of psychoanalytic thought, about castration and, of course, Oedipus: a stage of evolutionary development of children in which loving and hostile feelings towards parents arise. This generates a new perspective on the actions of perverse children and how they become complexed towards an adult life full of limits with culture, a great book to philosophically unravel the cultural desire not to be like other animals.
The Sixth Book, Lacan, number 1, "The Theoretical Writings of Freud", essential to start studying psychology, is based on an explanation and criticism from the scientific point of view of Lacan towards Freud. I need to acquire the 15 volumes, where psychoanalysis is based and that I want to study in depth to graduate as a psychologist, since I am not a big fan of cognitive behavioral, although I respect it, I have a certain sense of connection and love for psychoanalysis.
The Seventh Book (which I cannot count because of the few pages) is a summary of the outline of psychoanalysis. My dear girlfriend gave it to me so that I could understand a little better the Ego, the Id and the Super-Ego, concepts that Sigmund Freud writes about in his famous books that one day I will have in my library more than read.
Yes... it doesn't count, but it's a book that I've had for a few months. We all know that Friedrich Nietzsche is not an easy author to read and the complexity of this book is what caught my attention, again and since it's by this author, the moral is the central point, his notes, a recap of what his life was like through an illness and Nazism... I didn't finish it, I'm halfway through, but it's something that catches you and makes me fall in love.
Another one that I have been dragging around, "Discipline and Punish" by Michel Foucault, an excellent book that is difficult to read, with central themes of the "school-army-factory" link, a critique of both the educational and penitentiary models.
All the pictures were taken with my camera "Lumix" DMC-FH4, I was given it recently, it's a small handheld camera to carry and take pictures, I still haven't dared to go out and do it... but I wanted to see how the pictures come out and I liked it. There is something about me in this post, those authors are the ones I constantly fight with because of the constant criticism towards morality, ethics, and the exclusive dilemma of why? I hope you enjoy the post and like the books I shared with you today, a very cordial greeting community.
Great pick
Ive once I listened to Fredrick Nietche before too but haven't read it before cause its hard to find a hard around here
It's complex, but if you get to know it, it becomes easier.
Thanks.
I'll try to get my hands on some ebooks then maybe that one would be much more easier to comprehend than listening to it
Good tactic, I don't really like audiobooks, I like smelling the beautiful paper of new books more.
Same here but sometimes I don't have a choice when I can't find the hardcopy around here. For instance, The Sovereign Individual is one book I've tried to have in my collection but I haven't seen one around here except if I order online.
Also, apart from that, I like to expand the library.

Wow, I always salute people who are always interested in reading in the era of social media with short videos that sometimes give rise to a feeling of laziness in reading in today's society.
It's hard, I don't blame people either, they start using Instagram and scroll until they get sick, realizing hours later that they spent more time than they would have liked... and so on every day...
Welcome to the community! I used to follow Zizek and watched his lecture. Strangely, I don't think I've read his books haha. You've got some great collections here 😊and please visit this book club from time to time!
I will visit it, I loved writing about my beloved books, maybe I write because of the ones I still have to read, and the ones I read when I was a child.
