Hace unos días escuchaba en nuestra televisión nacional, a la prestigiosa psicóloga cubana Laura Domínguez, profesora de la Universidad de La Habana (UH) y miembro del centro de estudios sobre la juventud, destacada además por su contribución al trabajo de formación de valores, hacer referencia al tema, precisamente de los valores.
Recordaba entonces algunas obras importantes que deseo compartir con ustedes, que tratan esta importante temática; sensible para todos en los hogares y centros escolares.
El primero de ellos es el libro El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha de Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. Pertenece a la literatura universal y por tratar el tema de los valores es que ha trascendido las barreras españolas. Se exponen el respeto, la humildad, el agradecimiento, la cortesía, el coraje, la honestidad, entre otros, que son siempre realzados a lo largo de toda la obra, produciendo bienestar personal y ajeno y las verdaderas relaciones sociales.
Su autor, intentó, criticar las novelas de caballería y escribió la mejor novela moderna como género y su valor literario fundamental, es mostrarnos cómo la imaginación es un elemento que nos logra poner en el lugar del otro, un valor decisivo en el mundo de hoy. Ha inmortalizado que la perseverancia es la para no desalentarnos por las adversidades, porque debemos aferrarnos a sus valores fundamentales. El viaje de Don Quijote, también nos enseña la importancia de una creencia profunda en la propia misión y por esos motivos es “un tesoro de toda la Humanidad”.
El segundo de ellos es El Diario de Ana Frank, cuyo valor propio representa a la grandeza humana, la que no habita en la material, ni en el poder político, social o económico, sino en el carácter, la bondad y la dignidad. Somos seres humanos y como tal debemos ser tratados: con defectos y virtudes. En forma de diario, logra mantener vivas en nosotros, a las personas que murieron a causa de El Holocausto, mientras narra las vicisitudes, tragedias, horribles muertes y tratamientos que allí se llevaron a cabo.
Mientras releo esta historia con mis estudiantes, me muestra, a viva voz, el valor de la resistencia, la esperanza y la solidaridad frente a la barbarie y el odio. Son los sueños, los sentimientos y las esperanzas de una niña que quería ser escritora y que supo asumir con dignidad uno de los momentos más crueles de la humanidad, para que viviesen en cada uno de nosotros.
El tercero es La Noche de Excilia Saldaña, el que a través del diálogo de una niña y su abuela, se maneja la poesía, para rememorar recuerdos y definir concepciones de modo muy preciso. Tiene plena presencia en el mundo, pues se nos descubre el amor hacia los demás, a la patria, al entorno natural y el repudio a las guerras.
Es un ejemplo de rechazo al egoísmo, y tiene hondas reflexiones que conquistan el espíritu de los lectores maduros. Es un pretexto para transmitir inestimables mensajes sobre la amistad, la amistad verdadera y sincera.
Platero y yo, escrito por Juan Ramón Jiménez, es el cuarto; un español que supo poner al descubierto valores que traspasan el cariño humano y llega al amor y al respeto hacia los animales. Nos enseña valores tan importantes como la importancia de nuestro patrimonio campestre y cultural o el lado más cruel de la vida, a través de la muerte de su amigo, el burro Platero.

Es el turno del quinto, Corazón de Edmundo de Amicis. Un libro que ha forjado a muchas generaciones de estudiantes que me han acompañado a lo largo de estos años de docencia. Revive el amor a la familia, al magisterio, el cariño hacia los seres queridos y colaboradores de aula. Es un llamado ineludible al amor a la patria, a la belleza de la amistad y la honradez, la lealtad, que son valores asumidos desde la perspectiva del padre, la madre, la hermana y del propio Enrique, su protagonista.
Se enfatizan en esta obra valores que no tienen un espacio de tiempo determinado y un contexto único, porque son eternos: el patriotismo, la solidaridad y la vocación docente. Se revela al corazón como una razón de existencia propia, que simboliza la interioridad espiritual, los sentimientos más profundos o vividos, el privilegio esencial del ser humano.
Es Alicia en el país de las maravillas de Lewis Carroll, el sexto en mi lista. Aventuras que encierran valores que muchas veces quedan atrapados en el olvido humano. Se entabla conexión, desde sus personajes, con la libertad y la tolerancia, tan fundamentales para lograr el valor de uno mismo. Me encanta recordarlo entre los encuentros mágicos que nos hacen, no renunciar jamás a nuestros sueños, la vitalidad y la amistad en cada parte interna que nos revive.
Enfatiza en que no podemos ponernos límites, esos solo existen en la mente, y cuando nos resolvemos a conseguir cualquier meta propuesta, surge dentro de nosotros, la convicción y la fortaleza necesarias, para destrozar todos los muros. ¡Si deseas algo, lucha por ello hasta conseguirlo!
Espejos: una obra casi universal, es el séptimo, del escritor Eduardo Galeano, y es un viaje que implica a los valores humanos desde la configuración de muchas voces femeninas, históricas y soberbias. Inquebrantables vidas pasadas y actuales, con profundas esencias, que abren las puertas hacia un mundo de guerreros que aman la vida, la bondad y la buena energía.
De manera brillante, dibuja la historia de la civilización desde sus inicios, para tratar aspectos tan diversas como amar al prójimo sea cual sea su raza, la discriminación absurda contra la mujer, el egoísmo que deambula en las guerras de odios y muertes, la necesidad de acabar con el hambre, la muerte de los seres humanos que se puede evitar desde otros seres no tan humanos y la desdicha de vivir en un mundo desigual, pero que puede ser mejor y más justo.
Es el octavo en esta pequeña lista, El Principito de Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Majestuosa obra que se muestra al lector desde la relación entre los personajes, la importancia de la amistad, tener la vista puesta siempre en ver con el corazón; la importancia de ser responsables con uno mismo y con los demás, a no ser superficiales y orientarnos hacia las cosas importantes que logran engrandecer la mente, el espíritu y no la materialidad, y cómo en la sencillez encontramos las maravillas más preciadas.

Destaca también la dignidad y la honradez, la integridad y la bondad de la infancia, y la aceptación de perder ante la vida lo que amamos de verdad.
Esta es una muestra de algunos de los libros que llevo conmigo en el corazón y en cada espacio áulico en el que enseño y educo, desde los valores más humanos y universales a mis estudiantes, vecinos, familia y amigos en general. Son obras de arte que quedan en la memoria y que deseo que mi hijo las tenga siempre con él.

This is a sample of some of the books I carry with me in my heart and in every classroom where I teach and educate, using the most human and universal values to my students, neighbors, family, and friends in general.
