What the hell did I read??!!!!!!! This book has officially ruined me for others. Right now, at this moment, every other book pales in comparison. I'm already having thoughts about re-reading it. How can I go back after reading this piece of brilliance?? Get ready for more gushing because that’s how I get when I find a good book. Instantly obsessed and cannot think anything else other than those pages.
I mostly read books on my Kindle as getting physical books here is kind a hard. And with the amount of books I read, I'd go bankrupt buying them. This is my second kindle and I know many people (yes you @bighungrypanda) hate ereaders and yes nothing can replace the feel of a real book but this is convenient and cheaper!
I recently delved into the sci-fi genre and this book has officially blown my mind. If other sci-fi books are even half has amazing as this one was, I am seriously missing out. I have no words to express my sincere love for this book. I'm kicking myself for not picking this one up earlier. I had little to no hopes but I needed this book to complete a Goodreads reading challenge, otherwise I'm sure I would have never read it.
‘Across the Universe’ is the first book in a trilogy of young adult science fiction novels written by Beth Revis. The story revolves around a seventeen-year-old girl who is travelling through space and time to a new planet.
Earth has sent a spaceship to a new planet with numerous important people in the fields of military, biology, science etc, tasked with colonizing a new planet. They are frozen, destined to be in the same state for three hundred years, till they land. One of our main characters, Amy, is the daughter of one of these elites. But she is woken up before the three centuries are up, a solid 50 years earlier than she is supposed to. She wakes up in this spaceship, not knowing what to do and how to go on with her life. The author did a great job of portraying Amy’s helplessness and fear.
The spaceship is ruled by a tyrant, referred to as "Eldest". Our second main character or MMC, referred to as "Elder" is kind of like an heir to the Eldest. He is supposed to take over the ship, once the current Eldest retires. I really liked his character. Let me just say Amy's lucky she's the only person on the ship his age now because he is so perfect. He's compassionate, strong, and caring, which is so attractive in a guy. Wild challenges came at him from every direction, but he always knew how to handle them. Amy was lucky she was the only girl of his age on the ship or she would be fending off girls left and right.
As the story moves forward, we meet new characters, secrets are unveiled, people are killed. It was really fascinating to read about the new albeit disturbing technologies that were being used. Especially the whole "mating season" thing. It freaked me out a bit to see humans behaving like animals, turning a blind eye towards a girl who was being molested. People were manipulated, pregnant women injected with genetic sequences to ensure a desirable and useful individual. Some parts of the book were like reading my biology textbook, sans the interesting drama.
The book begins with Amy and her parents being frozen and prepared for their journey and it was so interesting that was hooked. Towards the end, my jaw was just hanging open as I was thrown into pages of shocking revelations. I give it a 5 on 5 stars, I would give it all the stars in the ‘universe’.
‘Across the Universe’ was one hell of a ride into the space and I can't wait to read the next book in the trilogy.

Reading from a screen feels lifeless to me, I prefer to hold and smell my book like a freak okay 😂

I hadnt read any book except of the job related manuals, tech spec or long emails from client. 😔
The Mahabharata that I bought is still in the book box. I haven't even unpacked the books yet. Damn I am drifting away from my books. :,-)
Oh unpack the books! Free them!!
They deserve to be read and loved
Yes, they do. And they are punished for my laziness.
Gonna find something to keep the book safe. I have a toddler who just found out that crayons, color pencils and sketch pens exists.
😆
😂😂😂 god save your books

When I read the first, I thought this was going to be aa negative review. Alas, it was the opposite. It's been so long I read a sci-fi novel. Thanks for this review. I now remember I once had a love for sci-fi. I'll definitely check it out. An amazing review this was.
Haha! I get the start can be misleading.
I'm glad you liked the review! Let's get you back to your love for sci-fi. You should definitely check it out❤️

Sounds like a very intersting and weird book at the same time. I enjoy a good fiction read, but mostly stikc to one or two authors.
Oh really? I read exclusively fiction. You should try this one!
Hello, @yugadi. I have not read that novel nor do I know its author. But I have read important science fiction novels or short stories, initiators of the subgenre; I don't know if you know authors, such as George Orwell, Ray Bradbury, Philip Dick, Arthur Clarke, all science fiction authors whose texts have been turned into films. Regards.
You seems have to read books by really iconic authors. I haven't gotten to any of them yet, but I sure plan on.
Thank you for stopping by and sharing the recommendations!

This the point that got me thinking about this albeit?
You should definitely give this book a try !
I love sci fi, my favorite series were Ender’s Game and Dune. I wish I had time to read now but I’m too busy writing…though not sci fi 🥹
Enders Game will tug at your mind with the alien speicies which are introduced one per book and expanded what I thought could be possible, and the power dynamics of the relationships is really interesting! Don’t watch the movie, please!!!
Dune is getting popular again from the movies now, it’s hard to explain what makes it special, but I think it’s because it’s full of esoteric wisdom and the second to fourth books in the series put you in the mind of a “god” which is fascinating. It forces you to face uncomfortable truths about humanity but not without leaving gifts.
I want to reread both what I get the chance! I’ll check out your recommendation too when I get the time
You write?? Tell me more!!!
Wow ender's game sounds super good. Adding it to my never-ending list of TBR. As a die hard reader, if I know the movie is based off of a book, I'll never watch the movie.
Dune though, I tried reading the book but I don't know..I did not get hooked to it. I watched the first movie and was not a fan of it either. But maybe it's time to give the book another shot.
Hope so you get the chance to read across the universe!
don’t treat Dune like a regular novel. It’s more like a religious text hahaha, although once you get familiar with the world it’s easier to read.
I haven’t read it in 15 years but I remember that much 😆
I wrote 3 short novels in a series called Confessions of the Damaged 1.1-1.3. It’s about a homeless drifter who is trying to turn hell into heaven with a little help from the trees and concrete.
I turned the first chapter into 3 short music videos here:
And you can check that channel for part 2 and 3 if you are interested.
Going to try and narrate chapter 3 in the same way but it’ll end up being 12 minutes… that’ll be a huge project though.
I like the passion in your posts! And I remember getting along with your bf during our interactions before! India may be the best place for the Hive tour I always imagine 😝 at least 4 or 5 people I’d love to meet.
Wow. That's so unique. I'll definitely check your YouTube channel out.
And yes! Do come to India and meet us❤️ It'll be a blast !
