Do you remember the "small hands" situation?
Anyway...
There seems to be a bit of a change happening in the world currently and I was wondering if I am imagining it, or it is a thing. I am also wondering if the people in the US are seeing or feeling it too. Because, I sense that the responses from many countries to the US tariffs, isn't exactly what the US expected it to be. I think that they were expecting more countries to rollover and bend the knee. But there seems to be hesitancy to do so. It is like the rest of the world is pondering whether it is time to change course.
Has Team Trump overreached?
It feels a bit like it, especially with the retaliatory tariffs on the retaliatory tariffs, like putting 200% on alcohol from Europe. The US is the largest importer of wine in the world - probably because most of the wines grown locally aren't the greatest. But, who is that tax going to hurt? Which is why I am also getting the feeling that people in the US are getting a little nervous too now, with their greatest country in the world spiel, when it is becoming the most erratic country in the world. And, it is going to start impacting on their daily lives.
Has Team Trump overestimated the US population's stomach for this?
While there is still a decent percentage who are doing fine, there are also a lot of people in the US who are doing it hard already. How willing are they to struggle more, and how willing are the rest willing to be inconvenienced? For those in the US, what do you feel is the average person's appetite for what is happening currently? Are Americans really aware of the impacts, or is there the sense that all countries will bow down to the greatness that is the US?
That seems to be what Trump currently assumes.
And if he doesn't get his way?
Well, his track record is retaliatory, isn't it? And generally in the most childish way imaginable. He has a very fragile ego and it seems at this point, not too many are willing to "make a deal" with him globally, because he has proven the US as an unreliable trade or security partner.
Is this how he does business?
According to his history - yes.
But because people (understandably) wanted change in the government because it wasn't working for them, they seem to have made a change that is again, not going to work for them. And perhaps, not going to work for them at an even worse level than it was.
Are people getting impacted already?
I don't trust the media when it comes to bringing clarity on even simple subjects, and this is far from simple. People are going to be impacted, while a man-child throws tantrums, like a rich kid who has never been told no. He will take his toys and go home. But, this is his life experience isn't it?
What happens if this time, the world says no?

As I can only have one poll at a time, there are three parts to it, and you have three votes. And of course as always, you can add more detail and context in the comment section.
Why does the whole world has to live according to one man or one country? Alternative world is possible and can be built by the rest or the majority of the world even though it might be bloody.
There are plenty of alternatives, even without dealing with terrible countries. The rest of the world should step up.
What if I don't agree with any of the choices? Michigan actually has some really good wines that are grown and bottled in the northern lower peninsula, but I'm not really a wine guy, so I couldn't tell you how they compare. Given the history over there I am guessing Europe kind of has a head start. It could force us to up our game. I think the leadership doesn't really care what the rest of the world thinks. Whether that is good or bad. He's dumb, but not totally dumb, so I think even if it drives the country to ruin he has some kind of plan that in his mind he thinks is a good idea. I'm not seeing it though.
You don't have to agree with any :)
I think the idea is to drive everything to ruin. I don't think it is just him. There are lots of smart people telling him what to do.
On the wine front - not all are bad from the US and some are really good. But there is better on average elsewhere. History plays a big part in that for sure.
I honestly don't think he really cares what happens. I think he has a long game that benefits him and all the chaos that happens in between now and then is just an afterthought for him.
I agree. Everything is for his own gain/ego - no one else matters.
This is what majority here voted for. It’s not unnoticed at all.
The thing is, why was nobody talking about Europe and Canada for example having huge Tariffs on USA prior to the tariffs going other way? It’s odd to me. I suppose it’s because USA buys way more so it effects more but Canada has had a 250% tariff on USA dairy for years in violation of the USMCA agreements but when the favor is returned it’s breaking news. I understand USA imports more so it effects more but it’s amazing to me how many are under impression there were no tariffs going other way until Trump put tariffs on.
Remember though in most elections, it is only ever a slight majority. That means a large minority voted the other way. It is important to note.
Also, looking into the day tariffs a bit:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.newsnationnow.com/business/canada-200-percent-dairy-tariff-fact-check/amp/
Seems it isn't exactly tit for tat.
This aside, I think the bigger problem is the erratic nature of how it is being done. It erodes trust very quickly, which means that many countries will look to find alternatives, and they do exist.
None of this ends well for 99% of us.
I'm generally not in favour of tariffs, because (although I appreciate it's idealistic !) I believe that if nations trade with each other on a mutually fair and beneficial basis, it increases the impact of going to war with each other and thus helps the cause of world peace.
But I can see the logic of why Trump is doing this. Where I think he is misguided is that while the US is large enough to be self-sufficient in food and many resources, most of the manufacturing was outsourced (mainly to China) since 1991. Trump shouldn't be putting tariffs on the raw resources needed to reconstitute US industry. If he has to do it, he should be applying tariffs to finished goods.

I find it funny when trump said that putin respects him and that had he been a president there would be no war. I think he may be delusional enough to believe that as well.
Yeah the guy trying to end war is the delusional one. Not the European leaders doing everything they can to get into a nuclear war. Honestly Thank God Trump won election. At least someone who speaks about how insane it is to start WW3, he talks about how it would be the end of world. He’s got my respect over any of these clowns trying to start WW3 aka nuclear ☢️ war.
I think that if anyone is trying to start world war 3 it is trump's pal putin and not the other countries. After all it was russia who invaded Ukraine. And it is russia who threatens the world if the world will resist bloodthirsty attacks of russia. Other countries are just trying to live in peace and not be occupied by some greedy idiot.
That’s hilarious. Ur not serious right?
It really amazes me how Hive a decentralized chain for free speech has more on average per size adjustment boot lickers theb say Facebook. NATO is warmonger organization. These aren’t serious people claiming this nonsense. What’s the reason to use Hive to just spew state media talking points? Now I know why I didn’t fit in…
@valued-customer thought u could use some comedy this morning 🙃
First of all, I was very surprised that Trump was elected as the US president for the second time. It would have been more reasonable for such an extraordinary person (in a negative sense of course) to be an unpretentious apartment manager instead of being president.
His statements and methods are at the level of madness. Since he knows that he is not a crazy person like him, he makes statements as he wants, makes moves that please him. He will continue to do such things as long as he is president.
It’s not surprising at all. That’s ur first mistake. And it’s not madness at all. With all respect have y even thought for a moment maybe ur just wrong?
but come to think of it i think the impact of the US tariff is also affecting the price of crypto

Well, certainly not what Trump expected it to be. But a lot of us in the U.S. expected it to be a shitshow.
He tried to run a country like a business, which could have been fine, but he tried to deal with people the way he dealt with poorer people as a rich guy, which did not go down well. The fun is just starting.

I'm thinking the U.S might’ve played itself a bit here. The whole we’re too big to fail mindset doesn’t work when the rest of the world decides to push back. Those tariffs aren’t just hurting other countries, they’re hitting Americans too. And honestly, 200% on European alcohol is just punishing the guy who wants to enjoy a decent glass of wine after a long day that's all. I don't know how long people will tolerate it before the frustration boils over but I doubt they'll be patient through this year
