An Iraqi man has been sentenced to two years in prison for alleged blasphemous comments against the Prophet Mohammed on Facebook. After an investigation, he confessed he owned the Facebook page and that all the comments were issued by him as an atheist. The supreme court claimed that the man had “harmed the feelings of millions of Muslims in the East and West” through his alleged defamatory comments, adding that he was sentenced as per Article 372 of Iraqi Penalty Code which has been in place since 1969.

2 years is better than a death sentence. Blasphemy laws are nonsense as they should not apply to non-believers. Upsetting feelings should not be considered a serious crime. Nobody dies from that.

I can't get passed how sensitive Muslims’ feelings are.
In any case, technically speaking, the guy did not commit defamation, but libel, which millions around the world must be committing on a daily basis, not only against their prophets but against every single prophet or god known to mankind.
I miss the old good days when gods were powerful enough to teach lessons at will, on the spot and prophets had a direct line with god. Cause and consequences were very well linked.
I am still waiting for a logical response from any religious leader as to why that communication got broken; as to why they keep defending gods that refuse to show their powers or if they do they do it in the most bizarre and counter-intuitive/counter-productive ways.

Lol.. Isn't this kinda taking the whole thing too far?

Why da hell was he sentenced? I believe everyone has his/her choices to religion. If the Muslim community felt insulted by his pay on facebook to which he admitted, the poster should have been warned not sentenced. My thoughts though

And they spend money on it, because those investigations cost. Contradictory.

Y gastan dinero en eso, porque esas investigaciones cuestan. Contradictorio.
