New ideas for food often come when we have to stock certain ingredients, but we are confused about what menu to make.
Exploring new menus on the internet is the right thing. Especially if the new menus have ingredients that we like. So we have a list of new foods that might also be a list of foods to like.
I have coconut for coconut milk. Then, I have a beautiful ripe mango and sticky rice!
So, this time I will share about a recipe that is quite popular on the internet. And maybe you've seen this recipe many times too.
Mango Sticky Rice
This is 'Mango Sticky Rice' which is famous in Thailand. The main ingredient of these desserts is sticky rice or also known as glutinous rice. Also, use mango.
Meanwhile, in Indonesia, we are more familiar with Durian Sticky Rice. Also about the taste is more savory, not sweet.
In this recipe, I adjust the ingredients for my taste. So let us see the elements and how to make them. Stay tuned!
Preparation
The important thing about preparation before making desserts is soaking the sticky rice overnight.
Without soaking sticky rice overnight, this recipe is a failure. That's because sticky rice will be undercooked and hard textured.
So, don't forget to soak the sticky rice overnight if you have the intention to make this 'Mango Sticky Rice' Recipe.
The Ingredients
- 2 cups of sticky rice
- 400 ml of coconut milk, divided into two parts.
- 1 cup of sugar
- Pandan leaves or vanilla
- Salt to taste, or about 1/2 tablespoon of salt salt
- Two tablespoons of cornstarch solution
How To Make It
Wash the sticky rice that has been soaked overnight. Then, prepare the steamer. Preheat the steamer. Then place the sticky rice on the steamer. Steam with pandan leaves for half an hour or more according to the steamer.
Don't forget to taste the sticky rice before removing it so we know whether the texture of the sticky rice is cooked or not.
Anyway, you will see that my sticky rice is a little dull or not very white in color. That's because here I use banana leaves to steam sticky rice.
Banana leaves will make the steamed sticky rice slightly yellow. If you have cheesecloth, then it will be better to use it to steam the sticky rice.
While waiting for the sticky rice to cook, prepare the coconut milk sauce. We have to prepare two types of coconut milk sauce. One part for the steamed sticky rice mixture, and the other part for topping sauce when it's serving.
Coconut Milk for mixed steamed sticky rice
Mix 200 ml of coconut milk with salt and sugar in the saucepan. Stirring while cooking until it boils. Then turn off the fire.
Once the sauce for the mixture is done, and the sticky rice has been steamed, mix the two in a bowl, without cooking again. Mix well the coconut milk sauce with sticky steamed rice, then cover.
Cover the cover pan with a cloth so that the water from the hot steam doesn't drip on the steamed sticky rice. Set aside for about 30 minutes.
Coconut Milk Sauce For The Topping
Mix coconut milk with a little salt, pandan leaves, then adds about two tablespoons of cornstarch solution. Stir well and bring it boils. Turn off the heat and the sauce for topping is ready to be served.
SERVING
Serve steamed sticky rice with coconut milk sauce along with sliced ripe mango. Add sesame seeds if you like them.
I love the final taste of these desserts. The combination of sweet, savory, and fresh mangoes gives a different sensation. It's also filling, as well as a fun way to eat mangoes.
That was about the recipe for 'Mango Sticky Rice" which was the first time I made it, but the results were really satisfying. How about you guys? Have you ever made 'Mango Sticky Rice" before, or just cooked sticky rice?
You can also try to replace the mango with other fruit to complete the steamed sticky rice dish.

This recipe is delicious, I have not eaten it, but I think I will. I think that using the banana leaves to cook the rice is fine, because in my opinion, it gives the rice more flavor. Excellent recipe my child.
If you have glutinious rice, then you have to try this recipe :)
I have to look for it in specialized stores, maybe I can find it here.
