Tofu, Cabbage and Peanut Sauce

In my opinion, one of the most crucial things in using peanuts is the high-calorie cooking method by frying them. This is a habit in our society that sometimes does not know about ovens or roasting peanuts. For many people, peanuts are best served fried.

Have you ever thought that it limits us in using peanuts because of too much oil? Peanuts already have a lot of fat and adding oil to fry them certainly increases calorie consumption. Moreover, one of the famous foods in Indonesia which is usually called 'Pecal' tends to be healthy but it turns out that there is too much fat behind it all.

I prefer to use the low-fat version of the recipe by roasting peanuts for 15 minutes in the oven. In fact, I think this is much simpler because it doesn't use oil which is likely to make my kitchen dirty faster. Roasting for 15 minutes is very concise, although honestly it tastes much more delicious using oil for frying. Fat always makes food tastier, doesn't it?

This is a simple recipe for me, when I really like the protein from these three ingredients. Tofu, peanuts and cabbage that make my life simple when consuming high protein every day.


The Ingredients:

  • Tofu (I use 2 types, fried tofu and silk tofu)
  • 200 gr Peanuts
  • 100 gr palm sugar (already pureed)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Spices (chili, shallots, garlic, lime leaves and 2cm galangal)

How ​​to make:

  • Peanuts, choose the best ones so that no peanuts are damaged. Then place them on the oven tray, bake for 15 minutes at a temperature of 150 degrees Celsius or medium heat, so as not to overcook, please check periodically.

  • Roasted peanuts are then chopped, you can also use a blender. Roasted peanuts can be pureed until the oil comes out, because peanuts are high in fat which makes them taste better. So, I use natural fat from peanuts.

  • Grind the spices, saute with a little oil and add the peanuts and palm sugar until they blend perfectly. Add salt and seasoning to make it taste better. Add a little water and cook until the water boils and reduces.

  • Fried tofu, I will slip in the middle of the starch flour with spring onions and garlic, the use will make it more chewy so that there is a delicious texture when chewed.

  • Silk tofu, cabbage and also fried tofu are steamed. Give peanut sauce topping and sprinkle fried onions on top. A simple recipe for daily protein intake for your body.
