Typical Indonesian Snacks (Wajik Bandung Green Beans)

Hello Hive Friends, Meet me again.

This time I want to introduce to all my friends the typical snacks in our country. Usually this snack only appears on big days, such as Eid al-Fitr or wedding events.

This snack has different versions. But still with the name "Wajik Bandung". This time I made Wajik Bandung Kacang Hijau. This snack always reminds me of my late grandmother who always made this snack when Eid al-Fitr arrives.

WAJIK BANDUNG GREEN BEANS

The name wajik bandung is taken from its area of origin, Bandung. Wajik bandung is also made from sticky rice, but mixed with grated coconut and sugar. Wajik bandung is wrapped in small pieces using colorful oil paper. The paper makes the appearance of wajik bandung more festive.

As I said at the beginning, this Wajik Bandung snack has a different version. The main ingredient that should be sticky rice here I replace it with green beans. I'm sure in some areas in Indonesia will have different characteristics in terms of ingredients and how to make it. And this time I share my version of making Wajik Bandung Green Bean snacks.

Honestly, this is my first time making Wajik Bandung Green Beans. Usually, my mom and I make original wajik bandung with the main ingredient of sticky rice. Hopefully I can make Wajik Bandung Green Beans like my grandmother made. I miss my late grandmother and all the dishes she made. I hope this Wajik Bandung Green Beans can be a cure for our longing.

Ingredients:

  • 1 young coconut / 350 grams (grated)

How to Make Wajik Bandung with Green Beans
Because the coconut I bought yesterday and I put it in the
freezer, so it took me quite a long time to melt this coconut.

  • After the coconut starts to melt, I put it in a pan. Then add 400 grams of sugar, and stir evenly. Until the sugar is mixed with the coconut.

  • Tips for cooking this wajik, you have to cook for a long time while stirring so that the wajik doesn't burn. Why does it have to be cooked for a long time, because so that the coconut is more cooked and doesn't go stale easily. Here I took almost 15 minutes to stir until the coconut was perfectly cooked.

After the snack is cooked, let it cool down a bit.

  • Then, I started cutting the oil paper into small pieces

  • After the paper is cut and the wajik is cold. We can immediately wrap the wajik.

Here, at first I wanted to wrap it in the usual way. But because I think it's not neat and also takes too much time, I finally changed the way I wrapped it in a simple way that's also not difficult.

And this snack is ready to be served. You can store it in a container for a long time.
