First time making barbeque sauce, kohlrabi and potato steak.

in Plant Power (Vegan)2 months ago

Hello, friends, community, and fellow vegan lovers! greetings.

I am glad to share my recipe for vegan barbecue sauce which I made for the first time. It may seem complicated with many ingredients, but making your own food means you know exactly what goes into it (eg. no additives, chemicals, or preservatives.) Taking the time and love to create your own food is definitely worth it!

Ingredients:

2 tbsp tomato ketchup
1 tsp mustard
1 tsp cumin powder
1/2 ts chili flakes
1 ts salt
1 tsp chili powder.

first we put a few ingredients together in a bowl.
tomato ketchup, mustard, cumin powder, chili flakes, chili powder, and salt.

20240717_175440.jpg
chop 1 onion and 3 cloves of garlic.

20240717_180202.jpg
Here are all the ingredients that make the barbeque sauce.
our ketchup mixture
1 chopped onion
3 cloves of garlic chopped
1.5 tbsp/30 grams of jaggery or brown sugar
1.5 tbsp oil
1.5 tbsp vinegar
1.5 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp salt.

20240717_180342.jpg
Pour the oil into a warm skillet. Tip: Mustard oil is better, or sesame oil is okay. If you don't have any of the above, use whatever oil you like.
I use mustard oil.

20240717_180356.jpg
Add chopped onion and garlic.

20240717_180553.jpg
stir well.

20240717_180526.jpg
Mix the ketchup and spices thoroughly.

20240717_180751.jpg
Add the ketchup mixture to the skillet when the onion becomes translucent.
stir well.

20240717_180846.jpg
Add soy sauce

20240717_180853.jpg
Jaggery/brown sugar

20240717_181016.jpg

Salt and pepper saving some salt.

20240717_181058.jpg
Vinegar

20240717_181126.jpg
and water. Cook on medium heat until thicker.

20240717_182512.jpg
remove from heat. the barbeque sauce is ready.

20240717_181427.jpg

I used it to make a kohlrabi steak with carrots and chanterelle mushrooms we picked from the forest. Later, I added some potatoes.

20240717_182623.jpg
Peel and cut kohlrabi into halves, making cross cuts on each half. Do the same with the carrots. Sprinkle with salt and pepper

20240717_182735.jpg
pour a little oil in the same skillet.

20240717_182847.jpg
Place the kohlrabi in the skillet and cook them on medium heat on both sides.

20240717_183419.jpg

Cut potatoes in squares making cuts on each piece.

20240717_190325.jpg
cook them together with kohlrabi. remove everything from the skillet.

20240717_190331.jpg
Now add the chanterelle and carrots and cook them.

20240717_191509.jpg
Remove chanterelle from skillet and place all kohlrabi and potato together with the carrots and spread barbeque sauce on them evenly. sprinkle some parsley or coriander on top.

20240717_194609.jpg
I put a little more sauce on the mushrooms they were too spicy
for my husband. So I stirred in some coconut milk.

Serve according to your choice.
Thank you.

Oh Wow!!!! What a beautiful dinner. The barbecue sauce is perfect. I am really inspired by your kholrabi steak. I never buy it but I will now, that you have made something so delicious. I love the cut of your potatoes. This would be a welcomed dish for me right now.💚😊😋

Thank you dear friend as always your support and encouragement. First time I tried it this way I was happy it turned out very good different taste and different look. Potatoes I make it often but never think about posting. Any way you like it that is a nice feeling. Greetings :)

This looks amazing, and I love anything with mushrooms. The meat looks tender and juicy, not overcooked and both the potato and the rice would be nice I suppose:)

Thank you very much, dear @millycf1976. This is the first time I've prepared Kohlrabi this way; I usually make it differently. I wanted to change things up in my cooking. It was a tasty and different way to enjoy different vegetable combinations, a little change from everyday's food. thank you for supporting and encouraging Greetings :)
