Making my Nigerian porridge yam with a new recipe

As one who has been raised to love local dishes and learn to prepare it well by my both mom and grandmas. I grew up to love local dishes and also do(cook and eat) intercontinental. It's a hot Sunday afternoon the everyone think's that eating rice is a traditional. People struggle to make that rice is in the pot, i felt otherwise. I want to eat some other than rice even if it's coming from the same class but definitely won't be rice. After my i came up with the idea to porridge yam for my lunch, i decided to try a new recipe that just came to my mind. Have never prepared a porridge yam adding two veggies like cent leaves and pumpkin leaves today, infact i haven't ever used cent leaves, i either make use of pumpkin leave or prepare it without any.

Making my Nigerian porridge yam

Ingredients

  • 600g of yam
  • 5 pieces of Scotch bonnet pepper
  • 20g of onion
  • 20ml of red oil
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 200g of fresh tomatoes
  • 10g of cent leaves
  • 20g of pumpkin leaves

Step 1
My yam needs to be peeled, so i did justice to it, washed it and set it aside. Washed my onion, pepper, tomatoes and selected and washed my vegetables as well.

Step 2
One significant thing about this my meal is that i added everything that all my ingredients for the cooking into the pot before putting my pot on fire. I chopped my onion, tomatoes and roughly blended pepper in the same plate, this made me pour all together at once after i must have put the yam into the pot. I added my salt, red oil and then water, then straight to fire. I will be adding my vegetable few seconds to bringing my pot down take note.

Step 3

My yam was already done but the water is not thick enough to make that well known porridge so i brought out two pieces just the I have cut put into my mortar and and pounded it, then introduced put it back to the pot this process actually thickened the water to my desired consistency.

Step 4

Time to add my vegetables. I added my cent leaves first cover it to allow it bring out that taste i want after the two minutes i added my pumpkin (ugu) leave and stirred very well covered it and bring it down. My porridge yam ready!! Well dishing out soon.

I plated my dish out, all of it. You really can't guess how yummy it tastes, the aroma and taste the cent leaves added it is out of the way. Try out this recipe sometime soon and believe me you would love it.
