Dimsum is never ending, there is just a buzz of new recipes that make me curious to try it. Moreover, the basic ingredients do not use meat, it just makes me even more curious. Kalj is again a vegan dimsum made from pumpkin with instant dimsum skin. It's quick and easy to make for anyone, including those of you who are just starting to learn how to cook.

Chayote Dimsum

Chayote dimsum is dimsum with processed chayote made in a pan and cooked first. This dimsum has a unique flavor and is enjoyed with a spicy sauce that makes it even more delicious. The savory spiciness of the sauce is balanced enough that you will find an unusual taste from this dimsum..

Intrigued, let's get started by taking you through the preparation step by step!.

Ingredients Needed

Main Ingredients

1 chayote
Dimsum skin to taste
1 stalk of spring onion
1 celery leaf
100 grams of wheat flour
150 grams tapioca flour
2 shallot cloves
2 cloves of garlic
¼ teaspoon salt
Ground pepper to taste

Sauce ingredients

5 red devil chili peppers
1 clove shallot
2 cloves of garlic
1 tablespoon tomatoes sauce

Different from the process of making dimsum in general, this chayote-based vegan dimsum must be cooked first for the filling, this is so that the filling dough is softer and has a chewier texture and minimizes the smell of flour later. Well this greatly affects the level of maturity of the dimsum dough. Let's look at the preparation step by step.

Making Procedure

Making Siamese Pumpkin Dimsum

Step 1

Cut the pumpkin into two parts, to remove the sap when after cutting the pumpkin I immediately soak it in salt water.

Step 8

Take a spoonful of batter, then add it on top of the dimsum skin and shape it into a dimsum

Step 9

Add celery pieces on top then, add in a mold that has been coated with a little oil. Now here for the optional mold, I use it so that the shape remains sturdy and beautiful when steamed.

Serving Suggestion

Serve the chayote dimsum with a splash of hot sauce uhhh this is indeed extraordinary far beyond my expectations. Experimenting with new recipes from chayote really yields amazing flavors. If I usually enjoy the usual dimsum, this is indeed very similar to non-vegan dimsum preparations.

The taste is indeed very good and textured. I love how the combination of chayote gives a different flavor in the batter. Usually a batter like this will be more flour dominant but this is just the opposite the flour is only slightly felt.

The texture is chewy and really soft, not hard at all, and what I like the most is that the spicy chili sauce makes it even crazier and it forgets my tiredness after almost 2 hours in the kitchen this time. This is my umpteenth vegan dimsum and it's also amazing, I highly recommend it to you.

Thank you!

They look so delicious. I love that you used chayote. It's something I don't use often but I do love it. The sauce also would be perfect. Very creative. I'm inspired to work more with chayote.

The chayote dimsum hot sauce combination is the best in my opinion, you have to try it!
